Center Console question

Somehow my wife has wedged something behind on of the covered compartments in here Camry XLE. The compartment that I can not open all the way is the one closet to the armrest. I can push on it and it opens about half way but I can't get behind there to remove the object blocking it from opening all the way. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get that part of the center console out. I can get the cover off of the gear selector area, but that is as far as I can figure out. Thanks Hoss

Yep, a bolt was dropped down the compartment next to the shifter in my Camry and it would only open half way.

The covered compartment on the XLE in front of the armrest should fix the same way. It's easy to fix. Unscrew the shift handle and also remove the two inserts that touch the console that are on each side of the storage compartment in the dash (just in front of the shifter console). These two pieces of moulding just pull straight out. Once those are removed the top piece of the console will lift up.

Start at the rear, just in front of the armrest and lift evenly on both sides. The connectors will pop out and you can then lift up toward the front. Once it's loose, there may be wires connected to lights for the shifter and the acc plug, but for me, there was enough slack so I didn't have to even unplug the wires. Just lift over the shift lever and turn on it's side until you can dump out whatever is lodged in the storage door area.

Put it back together in reverse of how you took it apart. Done... you just saved a $75.00 (or more) service call.
