There's nothing "digital" about it. And as far as being only .45 inches thick... uh... thats about how thick the Denso-Koito ballasts are. There are plenty of ballasts out there that don't need an external igniter... Honestly, it looks like any other ballast. And I'm sure it is just like any other ballast.
