It was worth a shot...

I'm sitting at a light this morning in my '07 SE V6 and glance over to see a red BMW 3 series sedan, current generation. His lane ends, mine does not. I'm thinking... if it's a 325... no problem. If it's a 330... it will be close but I definitely have a chance even if its a manual. So the light turns and I get on it a little, he gets on it A LOT. I hammer it and start reeling him in. He had quite a jump on me but I was catching up. When I get even with him I see a downshift and he squirts ahead. Then I saw the dual exhaust and 335i badge! DOH!!! LOL... I forgot the 335's come in sedans too. Still, I thought it was a decent showing for the Camry.

** to save you the trouble... yes, street racing is dumb **

You have to try. I've beaten a Dodge truck, and a V6 Rustang. I also got waxxed by a Mustang GT.

Nice, you should have mashed it from the start to see how well you could do. What comes in the 335i anyway? I am surprised at how quick my 07 SE V6 is but I havent really raced anyone. I guess its just not that kind of car. In my Turbo protege I would get people trying to race me all day. Every other light I would pull up to, would be a riced out cavy or civic revving at me. It was kind of annoying, but now I miss it a little. LOL!

300hp twin turbo inline 6.
300 lb ft (max torque is 1400rpm!!!)
Weight = 3593lbs

Wow... I can't believe it weighs 110 lbs more than a Camry and it's almost a foot shorter.

I suspect that a good driver who can launch properly would kill a Camry pretty easily. They are very quick cars but they do have to at least make an effort against a Camry.

Gen6

I've smoked a 2005 acura TL, and pulled head to head with TL Type-S auto (3.5 V6 286HP). I also took on a infiniti G35 coupe (280hp, 6MT) but i pulled ahead only when he shifted to second. So that by the time we were both in third, i was a car-length ahead of him.

If you know how to launch your vehicle properly, you can attack lots of cars which are faster on paper.

I have attacked G35s, 328i, 545i, X5 4.8i, ML500, Acura TL, Nissan Maxima, Cayenne S, VW GTI, etc.

The 545i beat me, but he was shocked by how little he beat me. Well come on...he has a 4.4L V8 with 325hp. The other guy who was honestly disturbed by having a Camry keep up was the man in the X5 4.8i. I'm talking the new-gen ones that just came out.

This was on the highway.

When is Infiniti gonna stop putting that ridiculously-sounding exhaust on their G35 cars? I don't know what's worse...the aftermarket fatcans on Honda Civics or the stock "race-inspired" exhaust on the G35. It sounds like shit honestly. Instead of bringing out the growl from the V6, they make long grandma farts.

Car manufacterers are always upping the power numbers in their hp race. A G35 is quick but turns better than the Camry and the build quality feels better than the Camry. Sit inside a G35 and than sit inside a Camry. There are things a G35 can do that a Camry can't and vice versa. If you are looking only for straightline speed, look elsewhere because a V6 Camry nor a G35 has it when compared to whats avaliable. Wait till the G37 comes out.

you're absolutely right. Its fun seeing the embarraced face of a kid on a VW GTI VR6 (with mods and stick shift) when he pulls up to you at the next light .
