I am looking at Portable GPS navigation systems for use in my Camry. I was thinking of getting the Garmin StreetPilot c330. Can anyone give some insight on this model or any other good models? I am looking to stay under $300.

I had, and loved that exact model! It was stolen when we forgot to take it off the windshield mount of my wifes XB, from our office parking lot
We replaced them with C550's instead, to get the live traffic updates - insurance paid for one, I bought the other so we both have them now.
I love the Garmin - clear screen, easy to use, easy to update off your PC (make sure you install the associated PC software and update it, better maps, and some patches). The voices are clearly spoken, and the unit comes off it's mount nice and easy for storage - one thing I don't like about the C550 is the mount and power cable are seperate - the C330 has them all in one.
In fact - PM me if you get it, I have a spare Garmin windshield mount in the garage thats useless to me now!
i bought tomtomONE for $299.99 at bestbuy and i love it! I did not use the mount it came with even thought it was very sleek.... appearance is everything to me so I do not like those HUGE bulky mounts that scream "STEAL ME" I used velcro and stuck it to my dash (where i think the "push start" would have been and feed the cable from the plug next to the aux jack through the small crevace and pulled the cable out from next to the steerling wheel. NICE AND CLEAN.
I always remove the tomtom and it fits perfectly in the pockets next to your leg right leg when sitting in the driver seat.
P.S> GPS will never replace actual experiance on getting around town. Tomtom sometimes takes u a slightly longer way...they should be able to update it to use "backstreets and short cuts" but all in all its a 9 of of 10 in my book.

I've seen Garmin nuvi's on sale for $350 in some places... yes it's a little more but it's hands down the best GPS i have used period. Just be sure to get the beanbag style mount for it so it's easy on and off the dash so you can hide it and it doesn't get stolen ...

I bought a MioGPS c310x on black friday last year..cost me only $150 at the time. it works great and has good reviews on it. I checked on amazon.com just now and its listed as $250. the only problem i had with it was that sometimes it would tell me to take illegal u-turns
I've been eyeing either a Garmin or an LG, but i would probably go Garmin if i can ever keep enough money in my bank long enough for me to get to the store lol..

I haven't bought yet but have been researching them. Consumer Reports has the Garmin Nuvi 350, the Magellan RoadMate 3050, and the TomTom Go 510 as their "Quick Picks" that were rated best overall overall, combining portability and performance. The report is dated December, 2006.

If you want a GOOD GPS which is portable, take a hard look at Avmap G4T. It will blow your 300 dollar budget, but I've owned two cheapies and learned my lesson on this. Get a good one the first time.

Tried that particular model and it works great, very easy to use, some say it's so easy there is no learning curve. Garmin also uses Navteq (mapping software) which I think is superior than Tele Atlas which TomTom uses.
The C330 is ok, the C340 is horribley innacurate. I ended up getting the C550 and it's been fantastic and produces alot better routes than the C330 did. The C530 is the same chipset as the C550. Only difference is the C530 doesn't have bluetooth, traffic or text to speach. The navigation system in my Camry is downright awful at directions, taking me horrible routes no matter how I try to set it up. I guess if you were in a place you didn't know it wouldn't matter right? Anyway, the Camry system tried to take me an extra 2 hours out of the way to get to our Condo at the beach. The Garmin C550 takes the fastest route.
