Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hello guys, I have been shopping around for a XLE 4 cyl car, and I have come to an agreement with the salesman about the price. However he cant seem to find a black XLE 4 cyl with leather, heated seats, vehicle stability control and the Z1 package. I have 2 questions:
1) He says that glass breakage alarm is very rare and he cant find a car with that. In addition, he says that the cars he found have the Z1 package without this feature. Is this possible? I thought the Z1 package included this feature. Whats the deal?
2) He says he cant find a Black car, and asked me if there was any other color I might consider. I told him The blue color, but I would have to see it before I decide. He also told me that ordering a black one from the factory would take 6 months or something. Does it really take that long? Do they pay a fee to order a car for me?
I looked at the web page for your distributor and to me it appears that what you need is the black xle with ash interior, option B and options V2 and CF. It appears that Z1 is not available for this car, but Z1 does not include the breakage sensor.
I looked at the SE Region and Gulf States Region and didn't find any black cars that came real close to your want list. I would ask the dealer to order the car exactly as you want it and plan on waiting for a few weeks. They might not like to do it but they can. The cars are built in Kentucky and that means they can pretty well customize what ever you want.

The glass breakage sensor can also be a dealer-installed option as well... i think the little ecu will cost you $100 and then 2 hours of labor... so around $250...

I ordered my 07 XLE last August. It came in 4 weeks to the day that I ordered it and I would venture to say they were in higher demand back then, then they are today. It seems to me the salsman is interested in making a sale today rather than getting you the exact car you want. Try another dealer. You already seem to know what a good price is for the exact car you want. I have ordered my last 4 cars, all Camrys, exactly as I wanted them. A car is a lot of money today and you will probably have it for quite as few years, so I would try to get exactly what you want. It might take some patience, but it can be done.
You guys in virginia certainly should know better than me her in Texas, but I went to toyota.com to build a new car and typed in a zip code from Richmond to get the local distributor. I fould the list of items included in Z1 and the glass breakage sensor wasn't listed. Maybe its included but the web page didn't know it---but beyond that when building an XLE, the Z1 package wasn't listed as an option. Y'all try it yourself--maybe I'm missing something here.
In any event, yes, the saleman is messing with you about the time lag. He doesn't have to order them from central Asia. Kentucky can get it out in 3-4 weeks. He wants to sell you something right now.

The labor quote I received from the dealer was more than 2 hours. I don't remember the exact time, but the total cost was closer to $350.
Hello guys, Thanks for all your input. I have decided to get the car with the exact options and color I originally wanted. After all, Im paying a substancial amount of money for it. I will ask the salesman im working with if he can make it happen, and if not im moving along to the next dealer.
I might even consider waiting for a 2008, njerald. If its really only a month away.
Order if you can't find what you want although 2008 production starts next month the last I checked.
I dont want to argue with you, so dont take this the wrong way, lol.
But I was searching alot online and many of the sites I saw said that the '08 Camry's probably wont be coming out until October/November because there are so many '07's left that they want to sell first.
Again, they could be wrong and you could be right. I just wanted to throw that out there.

You may have been playing on the internet but production and sales are two different things.
I'll offer whatever my two cents are worth with regard to when the 08 models will appear and the stock of 07's. When I got my car a few months ago I had it roughly 2 weeks from its manufacture date. That hints that there wasn't much of a log jam. Some distributors will show vin numbers in their internet information and many listed are yet to be built with delivery dates out into the future. Bottom line, I really don't think there is much of a stockpile of cars and since the 08 models won't change much if any, there is no hoopla over the new model year. Couple that with the fact that they have been retailing the 07's for 15 months and you have an argument for a July/August introduction. Besides they don't want to sell fewer 08's than 07's, right?
