5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I didnt have the problem at first, but there is a flare now. It's not really that bad though, the only thing that happens is that when you drive your car when it's cold, the RPM's will go up by a few hundred mainly between 3rd and 4th gear, but you dont really notice it unless your looking at the tach. I can easily live with it if it's the only tranny problem there is.

It's way better to deal with the little flare instead of having Toyota replace the whole tranny. The car will never feel the same again.

I've read all the stories here and from some people i've heard that the flare was worse after getting it replaced. Im sure the winter will be alot worse, since when it was in the 50's one day the flare was alot more noticable.
i read somewhere that people who drive camry v6's and don't read sticky's have their transmissions spontaneously combust, the rest of the car burns up as well and it leaves the owner wishing they bought an acura TL. njerald will then show no mercy because you failed to read the owners manual cover to cover, all associated TSBs and just to rub it in, will post 40 links to this same coversation. And TRD VVTi will come throw poop at you just because he likes telling outlandish stories and making obnoxious posts. like this one.

I can fix your tranny problem.....just move to sunny San Diego where the weather is 65 to 75 degree most of the time

Been there done that! I lived in North Dakota for 5 years when I first came over from Vietnam in 1982.
ah cool deal. i love snow, couldn't live without it. then again i'm addictec to snowmobiling, so are all my uncles! anything over 70 degrees and it's waaaay too hot for me.
Speaking of SE's, theres a really sick 2005/06 Camry SE V6 near my work, I believe it's a salsa red pearl or w/e the color is for maroon on the Gen5.5's. Anyways, it's all stock but the 5.5 rims, spoiler, and blacked out lights look soooooo sick. Sometimes it makes me wish I bought that instead! lol
i hear their are alot of transmission problems with the 2007 camry, anyone else have this problem?
I see someone above who said it's not as common as you think, I actually think it's extremely common on the V6 it just drives a small portion of people crazy the others just ignore it.
There are definatley problems with the transmission in the V6 Camry, I have a mid april 07 build date V6 that was delivered in March, so it's brand new and I have about 2500 miles on it. I thought I was safe because most people complaining got theirs about a year ago and I was positive Toyota would have the start-up issues cured.
I was dissapointed, it "flared" after about 100 miles, basically between gears it can jump from 200 to 1200RPM then it snaps into the next gear. I'd say it's harmless but my tranny also whines like a 1990's crown-vic automatic. I would rate the transmission about a 3 out of 10, the guys who developed the software and clutch pack were definatley not from the "A" team, hopefully Toyota was smart and showed them the exit.
I reccomend buying the 4 cylinder or choosing another option if you want a V6 (Subie, Used acura TL, or wait for the Accord V6)

looks like its between SE, Altima 2007 SE(which i havent heard negative feedbacks about), 2006 Maxima SL(fully loaded=$26000), i just love the SE, will toyota ever come out with a better tranny, and replace it with the old ones?
