whine on speaker with RPM

2002 Camr XLE.

Hear a slight wine on the speakers as I rev up the 4 banger...

What could it be? plug wires? (I have only 57K) When are wires to be changed?

thx

Poor grounding point. That is almost certainly your cause especially if you're running an aftermarket audio in there.

If you're confident that your ground point is proper, then lower the input gain on your aftermarket amp. That will decrease and eventually remove all interference.

I have done a custom audio job on my old car. I had two amps in there. The car was a Toyota Echo (also 4 banger) and I had the symptom which you describe.

I fixed it through:

1) Purchased a higher-end Pioneer head unit which had 4V preouts instead of 2.2 as most have. This gives out a stronger signal.
2) I decreased the input gain on my speakers amp (the sub amp was fine).

yeah, I've installed an amped front component system and I have the whine as well. I've also been told that it's the ground. I tried sanding the ground spot to give better contact with metal but it still whines.

also is your rca's ran on the same side as the power wire. If it is switch it over on the other side. I heard running the rca's with the power causes engine noise too. If that is not the problem then replace your rca. That can also be another problem.

Yes, the electrical wiring is not shielded and neither is the wiring to the speakers so if the two come into close proximity you can hear the alternator whine and spark plugs. Try to keep the two apart.

You didn't say much about the radio setup--original or aftermarket and did it just start suddenly or has it happened over time. The fixes are different.

If all else fails get some .01 microfarad ceramic capacitors and attach them across the connections at each speaker and this should calm things down.

Then just make real sure that all ground connections are very clean and effective. Disconnect and clean the negative and positive cables at the battery. Check the tightness of the negative cable where it is attached to the body or transmission. Polish the surfaces if you see the need using some real fine sandpaper. Take a look at the alternator connections and do the same thing. Clean the contacts on the alternator.

Also, sometimes the radio will hear electrical noise because the antenna is ineffective, so make sure it works. Think the receiving antenna is in the rear window grid on that model so using an ohm meter, check verious locations for continuity to verify the grid isn't broken. Check continuity of the coax back to the radio. verify that there is no continuity between the center conductor and the shielding.

If it isn't working properlyat this point, check to see if you have added noise when other electrical items are running such as turn signals or a/c fan. You might also have a bad ground at one of these locations. Consider pulling various nonessential fuses from the system to see if you can eliminate the problem. Mark their locations so you can replace them--do one or two at a time.

With a 5-6 year old car the problem could be a number of bad ground points, and if you are right on the ocean then oxidation certainly is a consideration.

thx for the detailed info.

I have to first locate the major ground points. (esp for the stock audio)

previouly my 1996 taurus had this wine too... chaning the plug wires almost stopped it (did not solve it though).

Also I am using a Sony MP3 CDman with cassette adaptor. So that could be it...

It could verywell be coming from your cassette adaptor, esspecially since its an analog connectiion. I am not familiar with Camry's JBL system, if it has an external amp to push your door speakers it is still possible to get this alternator whine. Deffinetly take gdanaher's advice and check all ground points and wire connections on the engine. You mite even try and add another cable or increase the size of the ground cable on the battery, I have read that in an some audio article at some point.
