5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Our Camry LE V6 with VSC is built and supposedly on a truck and headed this way (to Battle Creek, Michigan). I was told that it was built in Georgetown, Kentucky and that it should be here either late this week, or early next. I am hoping for the sooner. Given geography, it would seem that it could be here soon, or sooner. The VIN is 4T1BK46KX7U050454.
If anyone has Carfax, could you tell me what is says, or if it says anything at all.
Congratulations and good luck with the new ride. This sort of stuff is interesting in that it means that roughly 3,500 V6's are being built each month on that line, perhaps 7k cars from both lines - at least since last fall when mine was minted. They're selling a bunch of Camry's!

I am excited, but trying to be realistic. If they try to stick us on our trade, I will have to walk. I placed $500.00 down, so we could make changes (adding the VSC and change of color). Luckily we are not facing negative equity. But, I do know what they are selling our trade in for on similar lots, and i do know they will make more profit on our trade than the sale of the new car...it is all games...I just want a fair deal. This dealership has been very fair, thus far, I just hope it continues through conclusion of the sale.
Toyota sucks for good trade offers, they offered me 500 bucks for mine, and 500 for my sisters...i sold mine privately and got 2500 (was a 93 Z24 convertible), and my sis went to Honda and they gave her 1500 (2000 Grand Prix, with engine problems). Toyota doesn't like to make deals!
Do you have a CarMax anywhere close? Take your trade vehicle to CarMax and get a bid. They might surprise you. Keep the price in mind and if the Toyota dealer won't match the CarMax bid, then take it back to them and sell it, but if they will, then you have saved some time and angst.

Wrong big time they will match a Carmax it just depends on how much a few hundred done deal a thousand done done. I see it every day. But always a second trade offer in your back pocket. Hope that helps.
The nearest Carmax is over 100 miles away. Carmax's website suggests using the Kelly Blue Book average price for a trade in. I hope they are close to the price. I just hope I do not get overly low-balled.
My fingers are crossed...and I am willing to walk if they cannot come close to our price. I will gladly take refund of my 500.00 deposit and leave. I already did it once to another dealer, who was asking 2500 too much for the same car.

Horsetraders! LOL
Don't cross your fingers ,find out what they will give you for your trade now and get it in writing
The car is not here yet. I am supposed to call the dealer regarding a few questions he has about our SUV, to assess the value. I am debating driving down to Indiana (Carmax) and getting an offer. It might be money and time well spent. But, in the back of my mind I would like to keep the miles off of the SUV, and not spend any more money (gas $) to get it valued at a dealership.
I just wonder if they lowball me at the dealership, where the Camry is going to be at, how long they will give me before I have to take the car, or reclaim my deposit? I am not in a situation where I must trade, but I do not think I will take the Camry if they want to play games regarding the values of our trade.
I have played this transaction smart so far, negotiating price without talking trade, then negotiating financing, and now the trade/down payment.

I agree, they offered $1000 for my '94 V6 XLE, when I had people interested at $3,500.
You can always get more if you sell it yourself, but whats great about trading it in is that you don't have to worry about it anymore, take time to find buyers, and most importantly, you dont have to worry that the buyer will call you and say that the car died and they want their money back.
You think you have done a great job with this deal but you really haven't because you don't know what the trade value of your car is. When you know what it is really worth, looking at kbb.com and checking with CarMax, then you can negotiate with the dealer and decide who is getting the old trade-- them, CarMax, or your neighbor's teenaged daughter. Worried about the cost of driving a hundred miles to CarMax? Get real. It might cost you $40 for the round trip but if they say the car is worth let's say $3500 and the dealer is offering $1500, was it all that costly?? Suck it up and get with the program.
