5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Doing an autotrader.com search for Camry SE's and I found a bunch that seem to be very low in price...'07's with about 18-22K miles for around 18-20G's....is that something I should stay away from? I'm assuming test drive cars probably got beat on.
i would treat this car like any other used car - maybe someone beat on it, maybe not. personally, if the savings are decent, i would consider it.
my father bought a "demo" car from reedman about 11 years ago. it was a cutlass supreme convertible with 5k miles on the clock. immediatly he had problems with the convertible top leaking. when he brought it into a local shop to take a look, they brought it to his attention the top had been replaced with a non-oem one. other than that (and aside from the trans going at about 160k miles) the car is still on the road with well over 200k miles.

well if u think about it. buying a used car... theres chances of it getting beat during its life but not all the time. but a demo car u know what everyone does when testing. test the accel, brakes etc and basically floor it and sine they dont own it there not going to baby it. if u think about it if the car has like 10000k on it... at least half if not more of it was km's put on while being some what abused. you catch my drift? i know a couple people who bought demo cars and they dont have any problems but personally myself i stay away from them
Just looked...its a 4 cyl...NADA shows about a 21G value to it from a dealer...so still kinda low.
Yeah..probably stay away from a tester car like that...try to find used from one owner or something. Only thing is I change my mind weekly about what car I want.

You should try looking into new rather than used Camry's. I was on the same boat as you. I was close to buying a used LE I4 but realized that If I new how to bargain good enough I could get a new Camry for an affordable price. I got my LE new for 18 g's and 20,500 out the door including 100,000 mile warranty and the added lip spoiler (including tax and license). I got the SAME exact quote from a used Car dealership on a LE with 14,000 miles.
You should try and get offers from different dealerships in your area FIRST on a new car and start bargaining between them. if you still think you can afford it new then start looking for a used one.
Watch out for flooded cars. There are still cars around from the flooding throughout the country. They just ship them to a different spot and lowball the price. Look under the carpets. Look in "hidden areas for silt" Does it have a musty smell? Look under the spare tire.

That doesn't sound right. I believe the SE only comes with V6.
My dad has bought a demo VW before. First week, he started have problems with the timing belt. Then after 50K-60K, things start breaking down like transmission, odometer, water pump....
I would stay away and look for a good deal for a user one.
Try sites like autos.yahoo.com and kbb.com and email the dealers (as many as you can) get to the best quote to negotiate.
Works better if you didn't have a trade as I found out.
My Mom got a '96 Camry Wagon I4 Demo in 1998 with 18k miles. Never titled. It was the dealerships car. Sticker was around $24k, got it for $18.5k Certified. No problems other then neglect by my dad on the car.
All comes down to the price and condition like ANY other used car.

That was back in the Gen 3 Camry. the Gen 5 and 6 came with both the I4 and V6.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
I bought a 2003 camry in 2003 as a demo (my 1st camry) It had 4k on it.... i drove it for about 2 months and it needed a NEW tranny! I drove it for another 45k and it was ready (i think) for a new tranny.... it had this flare thing where it would drop outa gea sporadically...like if i shifted into neutral. But at $300 down and $300 a month for a SE was a excellent bargin.
i dont regret my 03... cuz i woulda never been a camry owner had i not taken the chance...
but its hard to "check" those dealership cars that were never registered... u'd benefit from taking someone who is well versed in new cars and spotting new "used" cars

I know the rentals are beaten up by rental drivers.. they are usually maintained quite well in regards to maintenance?
My Camry is an ex-Hertz rental. I'm sure they get beaten up on but not enough to make a difference. I went directly to Hertz; they take the best of their outgoing cars and sell them on their own lots. The rest go to dealerships via auction -- generally those that get auctioned are the ones that need a little more reconditioning than normal and they have more mileage.
Anyway, my next car will also be from Hertz if they continue buying imports for their fleet. I'm waiting for the 07 Camrys to hit their lots as I'm curious about the price. And a used car is a used car. Demo, ex-rental, old lady's car..doesn't matter.
