5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I live in the midwest and was wondering how valuable VSC might be. Does it really help in snow? Is it an advantage in rain? What about normal driving, does it really affect performance?
VSC helped me in the snow during a snow storm in PA. Car went sideways, the light came on and started beeping. I took my foot off the gas and VSC took over and straightened out the car for me. VSC is becoming a standard on most new vehicles.

Last winter here in Seattle we had a few blankets. VSC worked great for me!
Only thing I wish it had was a manual off/on button. VSC is tied in with the Traction Control which gives you major bog when trying to jump off the line, unless you pedal it. I usually can drive most cars faster with traction control off without going up in smoke.
Yes there is a manual, pump the footbrake, brake, turn ignition key procedure you can do to disable per ignition cycle, which is a pain in the a$$ everyday driving but for the drag strip I guess it will do!
I'd opt for it again especially in the wet/snow climate areas.

Wait, so you can disable VSC by doing that? Pressing the footbrake and brake while turning the ignition key disables VSC? Is there a light or any sort of indication?

Have you driven the Camry with and without the VSC? The bog off the line was my concern. I do like the get up and go of the Camry without VSC, but have not driven one with VSC. Is it really that noticable in day to day driving? I do like to have the power there when I want it.
I did read a web page somewhere that described adding a switch. It involved cutting a wire and putting a switch in series with the cut wire. I'll try to find it again and post here.

Driven it with the VSC disabled..... Bog only happens when you floor it and the tires start to slip. If you pedel it you can work around the VSC and the car is fast enough for what it is. Without VSC on the street you need to pedel it as you'd spin your tires too much for an optimum launch anyhow. Most people would actually go slower with VSC off or not present.
No difference day to day driving and since your in the midwest, I'd for sure get it!
