5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well I've finally had it with this pile of junk called a camry.Every time I turn around something goes wrong.Quality it seems is not what toyota is about and so the camry is being put out to pasture and shot. Will be going through arbitration.Have to according to NC law.Already have another vehicle that I'm putting on the road-a 1998 gmc sonoma with the 4.3 V6.Got from my dad when he passed away.Had it shipped from california.
that GM Sonoma is going to give you a million more problems when it gets over 150K + miles than the Camry ever will. I like GM/Chevy, but i know better when buying them!
I hear ya. We also had to dump our 07 Camry because it was just a pile of junk. I've had american cars that were more reliable.
Just for those who wish to know, 2007 Camry, I4, LE, October build.
1. Our Camry had some serious electrical problems that caused it to just stop on the highway as you were driving along. (Toyota said this was impossible until they had to come and get it on a flatbed one of the times)
2. The transmission slipped out of high gear when you were just driving along. This woulod happen and the engine would rev up until you took your foot off the gas and slowed down below 50mph and then the transmission would "catch" again--until next time. Toyota said this was normal for four cylinder Camrys, and found no fault other to say it must be the way both my wicfe and I drive it)
3. Many times it wouldn't start for about 5 minutes. Finally it would catch and start. Toyota said this was "our fault" because we had an accessory attached to the accessory plug. Even the Toyota Rep from out of state couldn't solve the problem and said that the accessory could be the problem--even when it wasn't connected.
4. Transmission would slip out of gear betwee 2nd and 3rd. This is a four cylinder five speed auto. Again, a different dealer said this is normal for 07 Camrys.
5. Serious hesitation of 3 to 5 seconds. This has been discussed extensively and is a dangerous situation. Toyota says it's normal. (although they have said they are working to find a fix for this "normal" condition)
These were the serious problems. There were aso a lot of little, less serious problems such as the trunk popping open any time. This is a common problem as you can see in any Mall or shopping plaza some 07 Camrys will have their trunk open with no one around.
Speedometer off by 5mph. Many rattles. maint light popping on any old time--even after reset.
The quality just is no longer there. We got rid of it in March after only three months of ownership. Will be our last Toyota. We've been loyal Toyota owners for 20 years. Our first new Camtry was a 90--then a 2000. We also have a 95 Corolla that runs flawlessly. Toyotas are just are no longer like they used to be.

Are you dealing with Mike Johnson Toyota? They are a bunch of Jackasses.

Nope, no Toyotas (or lexus, or scion)) for us any more. They no longer have the product they were known for. We still have a 95 Corolla that runs perfectly, and still has less rattles than the 07 Camry did, or my wifes 07 Corolla. Should have kept my 2000 Camry.
For a car with this kind of quality you can spend much less money. Even Consumer Reports only gives the 07 Camry an average predicted reliability. However, I think that when they get the full results of this years survey, you may find it lower.
I'm considering a Honda, or Mazda. But, I don't think we'll find any vehicle with the kind of reliability and problem free driving that we've become used to in the older Toyotas. I'm not the only one around here that's had to dump their brand new Toyota because of serious problems. They're just not the same car company any more for new vehicles or service.
