5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so, i've been planning on debadging my car for a while, and yesterday i got to work a little early, so i just checked how well they were stuck on, i barely touched my toyota badge, and the stupid "t" broke off!! so for a whole day, i was driving an oyota..so, when i got home i used floss to take them off, and they all came off fine, except the V6 emblem, and it took paint with it... upon closer inspection, it looked like the emblem was put on while the paint was still wet... so, now my dealership is ordering me some touchup paint..it looks cleaner...but i just had to vent!!!
I think it is a trend that mainly stems from people with lesser models (of any kind of car) who don't want to be openly seen driving the lesser model. They'd rather keep some people guessing and leave the possibility of them driving a higher-end model.
That whole argument about it looking "cleaner" may or may not hold. That's personal taste.
I've been in all kinds fo cars, including the bottom of Toyota's food chain (the old Echo). I never once even had the thought of debadging the thing.
In Europe, debadging is usually done to the higher-end models. The idea is to fool some thieves into thinking that for example a Benz E500 is really a debadged E270 CDI which might not be as good "a catch" for the thief.

I debadged cause I think it looks cleaner. I think if you remove the Toyota emblems for the front and back, it looks incomplete. Mind you with the punkass kids in my neighborhood it may just be fully debadged against my will.
I, personally, like the cars with the emblems. To me, the car looks naked without the emblems on it. There's a debadged Acura TSX that rides around town. Honestly, it looks odd. I mean it looks like they didn't finish it at the factory and it's not really an Acura.
Last time I had my car in a body shop, I had the guy remove the emblem that an old dealership put on it to advertise their Toyota lot. That free advertisement is just a little annoying and clutters the back of the car.

Always got something else in mind...
first of all.....my car is a gen5 se v6, so you can just forget about that "lesser" model crap...its just something else to be different, isnt that what modding is all about??
some people may not like it, but thats the case with everything!!! i just wanted to do it because i hated how the se's came with black pearl emblems, but the big toyota symbol was chrome...plus, there are a few se's like mine rolling around this area, and i'm trying to keep from looking like them(this is just another small change like wheels, springs, hids, exhaust, to keep my car "mine")

i gotta say it, those wheels, that color, and the stance, and of course the lack of emblems(hahaha)
makes that one of the best looking gen6s i've seen.

except for the fact that it's a 4 ....
personally i see no reason to debadge a car, it just takes away from the overall appearance... the only practical reason i can think of is if you have an LE, and you don't want people to know you have the cheaper model... but personally i like advertising that i have an XLE V6
