Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a pair of subs from my previous car that are pretty much just sitting around. And I was thinking, is it possible to connect them to the stock receiver/stereo? I just tested it by connecting the rear speaker cables to the amp and the subs did work, but was distorted (probably from the higher voltage?), but I was thinking that it could be possible if I connected it to the FL and FR wires coming out of the receiver.
And does the standard model have the amp under the passenger seat, or is that just the JBL model?
Ideally to minimize distortion and allow for the best sound reproduction you should have an amped matched to the subs and get a line level input. Do you have the JBL system?

Forgot to mention that I do have an amp that was paired with the subs in my previous Camry.
You need a line level out converter, $15+ and then u need to connect the cables to your rear speakers. That will give you 2 RCA outs which you can then connect to your amplifier

The one I have only has one set of RCA inputs. I actually have the entire dash apart now and i'm going to try tapping into the front left (FL) and front right (FR), and see if that sounds any better.
actually to hookup a amp kit just buy a hilow converter whihc gives u rca outputs run cables down to back of ur car to ur amp and connect subs there easy shizz no need to tap into rear speakers. unless connectin 4channel amp

i tried to hoop up my old bazooka bass tube to the rear spks like i had it set up in my old 300zx. sometimes it worked sometimes it didnt. weird. i just took it off and put it in the attic.
Dude, go to RadioShack buy the speaker wire to RCA connector adapter. Tap your rear speaker wires and connect the RCA to your amp. Thats it, why go through all that hassle.

That's what Dilan's recommend, buy level-out converter, open up your trunk, tap them into both L/R speakers and the RCA to the amp. This way you don't have to run wire from front to back.
well im just gunna guess that the red is positive and the yellow is negative.
typically the connector for the positive is larger than the negative. jus make sure the stereo and shit are off when ur connecting the stuff...dun wanna blow something on accident.
