5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I tapped the receiver harness for my subs, and I tested it with the amp wired up to my previous car, and sounds great. But I'm having a hard time finding a way to run the + wire from the battery. I can not find anyway to get through the firewall (without drilling), seems like Toyota did a good job and made sure everything was sealed up good.
The only way I saw that would work would be to run it under the car and up through the trunk, but I'd rather not do that because of the water and hot exhaust.
What i'm really asking for are some pics/explanations as to what people have done on their Gen6, or even Gen5 so I could get some ideas.
I can post some up tomorrow. Currently at work. I just finished installing my amp under the passenger seat. I was able to tap in the wiring harness at the kick panel so I did not want to pull the head unit out and cut that wiring. I have the power wire coming in thru the passenger side grommet. It can be pulled out by hand and you can feel the area where you can poke a hole in it. Just spray some silicone on the wiring and it slides right in.
I have the HU wiring all set, I didnt have to cut anything either, I just connected the wires to the harness and then snapped it back into the HU. There is also a power antenna connector that I can use for the amp, the only thing I'm worried about is the + cable for the amp and finding a ground in the trunk.
actually i do. its not an 07 but an 05, but its where the steering shaft goes through.. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t196795.html i have some pics in that thread but they dont show much. basically its up and to the right of the brake pedal. most likely you will need another person to feed the wire through(i used my little bro). you will see the grommet on the drivers side in the engine bay. if you push aside the grommet and have someone underneath the dash, they will be able to see the light
Thanks for the pic, I think I know what your talking about when I look under the drivers side dash, but it was hard to tell from the engine bay because the V6 is so large theres not much room to work. But hopefully i'll get it through... somehow.
Thanks again, I was able to make a small hole in the rubber seal and get the wire through it, so now everything is wired up and working well, I just need to make my own on/off switch since I can't connect it to the power antenna wire, and I dont want the amp on when the cars off.

I didn't realize you are a handyman with car. Job well done.

lol thanks, i'm really not that good at working on car related things, but if I actually set aside time for it I can get it done. I'll post up pics after the whole install is done.
I got everything installed and sounds great, and I cleaned up the inside so you dont see any wires (unlike my previous cars). The floor mats are really dirty, but looks alot worse on camera.
Here are some pics during the install:
And here are some pics after everything was put back:
