5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well, I did it. I bought the LE V6 with VSC/Trac, body side moldings, and floor mats. We got our price, and the value they traded us was actually 600 higher than Carmax. Those who told me that I would not regrat making the 200 mile round trip to Carmax were wrong. Even though I was convinced that I would get a better price from Carmax as well. Who would have thought! Thanks to everyone who helped me make my decision!
The color is Blue Ribbon Metallic. The V6 is very quick.
The wife wanted a Jetta, but she definetely could see the value was with the Camry. We bought the Camry for the same price as the Jetta, except the Jetta had a better interest rate, it only made few dollars a month difference, so we got a heck of a deal.
Congrats on your rocket ship! If your wife happens to be in the car with you, please do show her how Jettas appear in the rear-view mirrors of V6 Camrys.

Thanks for all the congrats. Congrats to you all for all of your help with the trade and price and info about options.
I was really disappointed with my Carmax experience. They treated us fine, but they sort of made the car buying experience feel like shopping at Costco. Not that there is anything wrong with Costco, or getting a value.
I am just glad that my dealer gave me below invoice and 600 more on trade than Carmax. The VW dealer would have given us 200 more for the trade, but we would have been buying a lesser car. All in all it only a little bit more per month to be driving the Camry. The Jetta, for what it is, is overpriced. However, when I test drove it, I really did not want to like the little thing, but can see some of the reasons VW has a cult following. However, I am not interested in a "lifestyle" car. I just want a great dependable car. FYI, the Camry is a lot more American than the Jetta, it is basically 40%German, 30% Mexican, etc. Kinda shabby.
I am very excited about our new car, and will be taking it to Houghton, Michigan (Upper Penn. Michigan) this weekend. From Kalamazoo it takes about 10 hours or reasonable driving.
No, i suppose I just had sour grapes, the Carmax experience was not a waste. Actually, the more I think about it, the Carmax could be a great way to buy a car if you are in the market for a good priced used car. I was surprized that their new prices on the Camry's were not more competetive. Anyways, we had a great Mexican dinner down in Valparaiso, near our closest Carmax store in Merrillville, Indiana.
Congratulations on your Camry LE-V6...you made a MUCH BETTER decision going with the Camry...just look at the track record of Jettas for a 5 year period...they absolutely SUCK !!!...VW might tell you, oh, well, we're a better company now...we're not the same company etc...they use the same ol' lines year in & year out...Jetta will also depreciate more !!
You will be much happier 5 years from now if you wanted to either trade this car or keep it for a longer time...
