Gen5 OEM muffler "makeover" (pics)

granted that even by installing a $400 TRD muffler, i wouldn't get much (if any) added HP, i thought i'd at least make my muffler "look" aftermarket hehehe

here's what I did:
- added a chrome, oval exhaust tip from Pep Boys (that most closely looks like Toyota's OEM tip)
- painted the muffler with Rustoleum "chrome" finish (Wal-Mart)

i'm asking if you guys like the finish? is it too bright/shiny? I may go with a more "flat" aluminum finish. just wanted 2 hear some opinions. holler!

imo the exhaust tip looks funny in that last pic.from the side it looks good, but everyone sees it from the rear.. maybe look on ebay for the oem one or paint the aftermarket pipe from the muffler a flat black so the pipe and exhaust tip arent both shiny

I would recommend a tip that's appropriately sized to the tail pipe. I would also return that HUGE garbage can sized muffler to flat black so it doesn't stick out at all.

If it's not polished or chrome it should be hidden. That looks cheap and the dirty water will evaporate quickly staining the muffler with dirt and making it look terrible.

Sorry if my opinion isn't what you wanted to hear. That's just how I feel about it.

Gen5

yeah unfortunately i'd have to agree... it's like you're basically saying you don't wanna spend the money for an upgraded exhaust by drawing attention to a stock muffler like that... just my $.02...

Go flat black everything, including original tail pipe, leave only the chrome tip on there

Yeah, I also agree that it doesn't look right. The muffler is just too big to be painted like that. The TRD muffler won't add power, but it will add sound, and the TRD muffler itself is much smaller than that giant stock one. Sorry man... it was a nice experiment, but the results just don't work.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

Just to give you an idea. I had my exhaust tip cut out and welded new exhaust tip over so you don't even so the inside tub.

makes the stock muffler look even bigger..which is not a good thing!

btw, what Camry exact model do you have?

i'm guessing you went to the Pep Boys in North Long Beach?
