5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I don't have any experience with VW's and don't like them. I can tell you that a friend of mine worked at a VW dealer and said it's the worst car line he's ever worked for. He stated they are complete piles of crap. I'm just passing along some info that I've heard and find to be very credible.
As long as the car is under warranty, poor reliability is acceptable.
Anyway, the REAL topic here is that the Jetta 2.5 (or any other flavor) would be a downgrade from the Camry.
The simple reason is that the Jetta is a tiny car, especially inside.
I would agree, anything that goes wrong would probably be covered under warranty, but then you have to take all that time to get it looked at and fixed, and who knows how much worse it will be later down the road. Thats probably why you dont see many old VW's driving around, except for some of the older Jetta's.
there was a guy a while ago that posted up if he should buy a 07 camry or the jetta, everyone said camry, jetta is sportier but has electrical problems; also a camry would definately last you longer than a jetta

there is a good deal on a jetta locally and I am considering it.
i am not sure about the reliability of the VW.
whats your opinion?
Wow ... please tell me you were high when you wrote this .... why in the world would you trade your nice Japanese beauty for that german junk??

POOR RELIABILITY IS ACCEPTABLE!!???? Are you insane ... the day I spend money on a piece of shit, and not care will be a COLD day in hell.
You've got to be kidding me!!! Why would you ever settle for anything less than perfection?

The people I know with ANY german car, including VWs, fall into two classes...
1) those who are at their dealer constantly
2) those who are never there.
I know a few people with 300k+ on their VWs and they have had very few problems but I know A LOT more people that fall into class #1! Hence I avoid German cars like the plague.
personally.. i wouldnt imo.. i had a vw golf 2004.. it had its good run.. but after about.. 70k it started having a lot of electrical problems.. so i traded it for a 07 camry.. .. only vw i would get is Mk4 R32.. just because they are sooo nice..
