5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've seen little plugs that people use to put in key holes, ie trunk/door keys. It's just a way to cover them up to look a bit nicer.
Other then custom, is there any place that sells them? I'm looking for ones in black.
Second question, I did the first oil change on my Gen6 V6. I was able to take off the filter canister, but the filter cap couldn't come off, so I wasn't able to use a tube to drain out the filter oil, it just kinda spilled out. I also wasn't able to replace the smaller o-ring there as well. Is there any way to take off that cap?

You loosen the bottom cam using a 3/8 square ratchet. Just pop it a little to break the seal. Might have to hold the cannister in place so it doesn't unscrew also, but it's no big deal if you can stand some sloppy oil.

Yeah, I did use a 3/8" square ratchet, but it took off the whole canister, I used quite a bit of effort to try to hold it in place, but no cigar. I guess next time i'll use something better to hold it in place.

I have found the design of the V6 oil canister to be quite a pain in the ass ... I think I've gotten the plug out the way it was designed maybe once, out of changing the oil 8 times now!
.... And I even have an Assenmacher 64mm Oil Filter Wrench

There are two flat spots on the threaded end that you use to put in a vise to hold it while you remove the bottom drain plug. I quess Toyota engineers figured that the drain plug may get over torqued alone the way and designed in a solution to the problem.
Ignore the round plastic thing in the picture. The person that posted this pic cut the front of the 65mm/67mm filter wrench off to get a better grip on the housing
