The good thing about our cars is that the headlights and the fog lights are the same bulb (H11). What you can do is lengthen the headlight harness to reach the fogs and streach the foglight harness to reach the headlights. So that way you can control your low beams with the foglight switch, and with your lights set in auto, only the fogs will come on. I did that with my Matrix to try and save the life of my HID's, it works great and you won't find a cheaper mod

I'd like to know this as well. I wish they would just come on with the Parking lights on. Having to use this with only the low beams on is kind of limited. The car would look great down the road with just the fogs and parking lights in my opinion.

Let me rephrase ... there should be an easier way. There might not ... I don't know. But whatever.

might not be an easier way, depending on how good you are at wiring and tracing harnesses, but i think its certainly cleaner and more functional than trying to extend the low beam and fog harnesses. for this method... you definitley need a good multimeter or you risk frying something.

Don't flame me, but isn't what you want to do...illegal?

Ok, I found the answer to my question. According to the CHP, as far as usage is concerned, you can use fog lamps anytime and anywhere with one exception. If your fog lamps are on, your low beams MUST be on. You cannot drive with just fog lamps on, or fog lamps and high beams (but the factory design of most cars ensures this is true). There are laws about mounting and also max. brightness. But I didn't ask about these because I'm assuming the factory fog lamps are mounted legally and not too bright. Now the one thing to remember, these are according to the California Highway Patrol. So if you live elsewhere check with your local law agencies. I would imagine it is fairly similar in all states...just like it is illegal to drive with just you parking lights on. Of courst, illegal and enforced are two very different things.

^on that note i have noticed many hummers that drive with the fog lights as DRLs.

i also heard it was illegal to drive with just the fog lights on but i have never been stoped in my truck and i drive with my fogs as DRLs.(hopefully now i dont get stoped for saying that.)

You pretty much answered your question right there:
"Of courst, illegal and enforced are two very different things."

Many many cars drive down the road with parking lights on and their fog lights as well. My mustang did that, Durango, I see Dodges etc. all the time doing it. It might be illegal - technically, but very rarely enforced. We're not talking about doing this at night, but during the dusk time period or late afternoon.

I find it funny that you singled out my posting, when pretty much everyone here wants the same thing. So technically everyone in this post wants to do something - gasp - illegal. Even those want to have even more control over the fogs than I do - by being able to turn them off and on without ANY lights on at all ( Low/High/DRL).

I totally understand what you're saying ... but someone getting pulled over due to this, would be if it's evening time and someone just lighting up their fog lights only. I, personally, don't know how someone would be able to drive with only their fogs, but expected to only use this during the time that the sun is going down.

Yeah ... I see it all the time as well. Heck, I see people driving down the road with just their parking lights on as well. As long as it isn't very dark out, and still some light -- I doubt a police officer will take the time to ticket you.

Sure, it's a risk - but not something I lose sleep over.
