5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
wow, TRD VVTi that's a bit harsh repsonse. I'm guessing his (or her) car is either an '07 LE or an SE since only the Gen5 and Gen6 were available with the rear seat vents, and only the Gen6 has an empty slot in the rear for models w/o the rear air vents.
Anyways germandebbie, I'm not so creative and I dont have an LE or SE so I can't identify with your situation. But I suppose if you're so inclined, you can probably make use of that slot to put in some AC power outlets - make use of the existing AC plug and get a splitter that converts one plug into 2 or more (you can get those at auto parts stores) - drill some holes and mount it in there. Then if you have rear passengers, they can plug in their stuff to those.
just my suggestions - I'm prolly making it more complicated than you intended huh?

I don't think that it's that harsh for crying out loud.
If he/she posted it was an 05-06 I would have looked at my car. Being he/she didn't post more info, I didn't go look at mine. Apparently others have felt the same way or there wouldn't be 136 views with so little help.
You know some of you need to calm down, for real. What the guy is talking about is in the back of the center storage compartment (you know where you put your cds) there is a square hole on LE and CE models instead of the vents on XLE models.

Well I guess this all begs a question about the center console on the 07 xle versus the le/se console. The xle has a rear a/c duct, so if one could compare the two consoles, does the xle have additional ducting built in along with the rear air register? Somehow it seems silly to design two unique systems, but then again it IS Toyota. If one was to open the rear of the console on an le/se, would you get air flow?

I was wondering the same thing.
How much work would it be to "tap" into the air ducting? Could be worth it.

Actually, you're the one that needs to calm down.
I posted that information to HELP. Apparently it did as now it's crystal clear what year and model Camry is being discussed.
Until that was posted, I, like others didn't know. Now look how easy it is to SEE what was being asked.
Is the piece of the console where that cavity is located removable?
I see no seam where the box could be easily removed. Perhaps one of the guys here with ready access to the full parts list could take a look at the exploded diagram and list and figure out if there is additional ducting under the dash to flow through on the xle. It appearsa to me that the console assembly is a different part from that used on the xle. I really don't understand why Toyota decided to put that little box in there. It isn't deep enough to hold anything, isn't flat enough or round enough to hold a cup. It's just pretty useless. Should have left it just flat/flush on the back if they weren't going to duct air back there.
