5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2005 Camry SE 4 cyl with automatic tranny. Bought it in December of 2004 and currently have around 78000 on it. Been pretty good with the maintenance, but not pristine. Around the 1st of June, I took a trip to Atlanta... prior to the trip, my kid vacuumed the interior prior to us leaving; the cruise worked before that. Now, the Cruise light comes on but nothing done to the little switch on the lower right of the steering wheel causes anything to happen. I also recently noticed the display showing which gear I'm in no longer lights. The car runs fine. Is it possible my kid unplugged something in vacuuming? Anyone else had this problem? I'd rather try the simple things before I take it into the shop. Thanx
I looked in the compartment, but didn't see anything that specifically looked related to the cruise, etc. that didn't have whatever else was in the circuit working... I'll check again...
"also there is a switch up on the break pedal that disables cc. maybe that swich is unpluged."
I agree with carlo$. Since it happened right after the car was vacuumed, that switch on the brake pedal would be my first guess. It's just a contact switch that disengages the cruise control when the brake pedal is applied. Perhaps it has been bent so it is always in contact with the brake pedal or it was disconnected. Stick your head up under there with a light and take a look.
you can look at the online manual and follow the step by step troubleshooting instructions.
Ok, where would the online manual be? Toyota doesn't have it.
Also, it appears the auto lock thing doesn't work like it used to. I'd start moving forward and the locks would engage. Now they don't. Could this all be related? Thanx.
You have a lot of elecrical stuff suddenly not working. Go back to the fuses under the dash and under the hood and actually pull anything that might be related, one at a time and eyeball them to see if they are blown or better yet use a vom to check continuity. Sometimes those fuses can be blown but not appear obviously to be bad.

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
Your bumper-to-bumper warranty was valid for only 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever came first. This problem would fall under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Your 78,000 miles is well over that.
