Replacement glass pricing... amazing!

Hello fellow TN members,

Just wanted to share my experience with you folks. A couple of weeks ago some punk@$$ smashed the drivers window in on my 03 XLE. I called around the local shops and got quotes in the range of 200~255 (Hercules, Safetlite, etc). I was going to install it myself as it was to be an easy drop in bolt on job, vacuuming the glass and removing the door panel would be the time wasters. One shop asked for my vin and said that the Japan version and the US version (Kentucky I believe) are different. How could that be? I have the Japanese built model and she quoted me 780. You kidding me! She double checked and that's what her screen showed. She couldn't explain to me what is the difference so I passed on that. I asked her was that an genuine parts OEM quote or aftermarket unit. Aftermarket. I opted for the 220 Hercules glass and popped it right in. Weathertight seal and looks just like the original. Anyone out there who can explain this price discrepancy?

Geeze.. I remember cracking my sisters 99 RAV4 windshield and got the replacement and full install for 280. This was in 2002.

On the 2007, the Japan built front door glass is cheaper than the US built from a Toyota dealer.

There are quite a number of different part numbers for the Japan built models.
