My "Maintenance Required" light came on tonight, right after my car hit 5,000 miles. I am assuming that I need the oil change. Question is.... Does my Toyota service station turn off this maintenance required light or can I take it to any Jiffy Lube and the light will go off? Please advise, as I am a helpless noob! HAHAHA!
You are correct in your assumption, at 4500 miles the light turns on and flashes a few times at 5k it stays on solid. Toyota resets the light, whereas most other places don't know how. I'd suggest a few things.
1. Avoid Jiffy Lube at ALL costs, I don't care if you go to a Toyota dealer or not, AVOID Jiffy Lube. 2. Check with your dealer, a lot of times there are specials, I know we have a $19.95 OC special going on right now ourselves, if the customer bought the car from us $26 and everyone else $37.
If you need to reset the light yourself, make sure your odometer is on the mileage setting (i.e. not Trip A or Trip B) and turn off vehicle. Push reset button (on odometer) down and then turn key to ACC position while still holding button down. The lights will flash ---- across the small screen and the light will be reset. Instructions in your owners manual as well.
At some point you really need to read the manual. You spent a lot of money on an expensive machine. You need to know how to run it. Please don't complain to Toyota when it breaks and you haven't taken care of it......

No kidding. I was going to mention the owner's manual too but I'm glad you did first.

It just popped on me late last night, figured this was a good way to learn. I am in process of reading the manual. Thanks for the heads up though, Dad.

It just "popped on" huh?
You mean its' been coming on for 500 miles but now it's on constantly so you decided to start a thread because you didn't feel you should read your manual.
Remember, YOU are responsible for your car. Kid.
You may have figured that posting on the internet is a great way to learn, but people can give you incorrect information. It happens all the time. Your owner's manual is directly from the manufacturer for the "owner" and will have the correct information.
Threads like this remind me off all the people that have radios that "magically" come on when they're turning. After you can't duplicate the problem they have a hissy fit. You then ask them if they are hitting the radio controls on the steering wheel while they're turning. Some lie and say no. Others give you that stupid confused look and it's really hard not to laugh in the idiot's face. People actually drive their cars for thousands of miles and don't know that they have steering wheel radio controls.

Enjoy your car. Camry's are great cars.
HEHEHE, I would ask about my radio but am referring to my manual. Trying to figure out the "fade" of music that increases in volume when I go at high speeds, but annoyingly softens when I slow down. HAHAHA.
My light actually came on to, but I believe it came on once the TPMS light came on, so i'm not worrign about it. I'm getting the 5000 mile service done tomorrow anyways.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Its an idiot light for people who are too ignorant or lazy to actually use a gauge to check their tire pressure. (Which kind of goes hand in hand with reading an owners manual)
