5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It may help in some situations, but will not prevent them completely.
yeah, that what I figured, I opened my SUV's door next to my new Camry... the edge of the
door hits the Camry's door, just below the door handle...
I guess for complete door ding protection, I need to park at the far end of the mall parking
lot.... or contact Star Fleet to see if they have force field generators for cars yet....
I had the molding put on when I bought the Camry.
Negotiated with the dealer for the install price.
I never had a vehicle without some sort of side moldings.
It was a mental necessity.
After 8 months I took them off.
The Camry looks so much better without them.
So moderm...so smooth.
I always park away from other cars whether I have the moldings or not.
The molding will probably save at least half the door dings from other vehicles.
That won't help. I know people who will purposely park 6 inches from you to F'with you if you do this (that, or key your car).
I completely agree. I had to travel on business a couple of weeks after buying my '07 Camry LE and, despite parking nowhere near any other cars at the airport, when I returned 5 days later I had a HUGE ding in my rear passenger door. There are a lot of people out there who just don't respect the property of others.
BTW - I agree with those who don't like BSM on the new Camry. I think they look awful and really take away from the modern design...
Fill the inside of the doors with concrete. That'll prevent dings! Though it won't help paint chipping and your windows can no longer open. The doors will weigh a ton also and maybe wear out the hinges faster. Not to mention your gas mileage may go to shit. But hey, your doors won't dent right?
That brought back pain full memories from a few years ago. I just bought my new Lexus.
Went to a local "upscale" mall. Parked in a the garage. Came back a couple of hour later,
and I discovered somebody had decided to key the entire right side of my car. As I stoood
there in disbelief, I noticed all the cars around me suffered the same thing. Mall security
came by and then police was called in. A total of 20 or 25 cars got the same key treatment
that night. They didn't just key the car's paint, the scratchs exposed the bare metal under
the paint.....
The estimate for my Lexus came to almost $2000. I'm guessing it's about
the same for the other victims. So, $2000 times 25 cars equals $50,000.........
I believe the incident also made it on the local news because TV news people
came out later... I didn't stick around long enough... too depressed at that time.
The perps was never caught. The mall security camera didn't catch them either... Must be
a group of punks who had nothing better to do.

Thats why I keep a nice, solid wooden baseball bat in the trunk, for when I find the person, or car that made the mark in mine .. I'll go ape shit on that car!

I would probably use the baseball bat to beat the %$#* out of whoever decided to key
my car next time.
Oh wait, I do have a couple of nice Glocks.... to hold the pervs until the police arrives.
not before I do this first....
