5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It's the same information that Whitecholocate, Thapranksta, Webb26, N8dogg455, Epsilon and other members have been preaching so that we can be safe out on road. It was their constant preaching and "nagging" that made a lot of us cover our squirrel spotters.
Good video though. Bottom line is HID kit housing in a regular Halogen housing is a no-no.

^Yes, HIDs in a car that does not come with them from factory is illegal. Even a projector retrofit is illegal. Do not be fooled by anyone that tells you otherwise. Headlights that are meant for halogen bulbs are mandated so by the Department of Transportation. Putting HIDs into those headlamps goes against that mandate, and is illegal, and you CAN get a ticket for it.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
Haha, I never said my lights were legal. But I chose to take the risk. If I get a ticket, I have my original set of headlamps that I can swap back out. But so far, I've managed to avoid being detected by the popo's.

damn mike, out there in cali ur lucky that you haven't gotten NAILED by CHP
Haha, about a month after I finished my retrofit, I got pulled over for doing a California-roll at a stop sign about a block away from my house. As the cop got out of the car, he noticed the TRD exhaust and the wheels, so he decided to take a quick stroll around the car. He even stopped for a second to look at the front end, and I thought for sure he was gonna give me a ticket for my retro... but nope! He just wrote me a Failure to Stop at Stop Sign ticket. That was probably the closest that I've come to getting busted. The way I see it though... if I ever do get pulled over for the headlights, I'll just be like, "officer... are you seriously going to give me a ticket for being safer?" Haha. We'll see what happens when the time comes...

^I doubt you ever get pulled over. Retroes don't get negative attention from the cops. If you are minding your own business, being safe, and not causing any problems, they really have no reason to stop you for your lights unless they are picking on you. HID kits in halogen housings, on the other hand, will give you problems. Just search for a HID thread started by desi_prodigy (I think that's his name) and you will see that he got pulled over almost instanteously. The color temperature he had was 12k if I'm not mistaken so he was asking for trouble.

Always got something else in mind...
I finally got the opportunity to visit the link since all the other times I came to this thread I was at work and can't watch youtube there. It's funny how people try to defend clearly unsafe driving. It's a simple equation.
HID KIT INSIDE HEADLAMP NOT DESIGNED FOR HID = GLARE AND DISASTER
Some guy tried to justify getting flashed using an HID kit by saying that his friend gets flashed with his factory HIDs. Why the fuck is he even comparing factory HID to a kit? The output is like day and night. It's obvious (if he is even telling the truth) that his friend should just lower his damn headlights!
I have never been flashed since I had my retro. I kid you not, NOT ONCE!!!!! My HIDs are around the height of the original factory halogen output. In fact, I debated for a long time on whether they should really be that high. I got my answer from everyone else on the road.
