5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
genuine 2007 Camry wood-trim steering wheel, $320, from Toyota dealer in Osaka, Japan
I mailed a pieceof 07 Camry interior wood trim, as well as the leather gearshift.
She received them yesterday. Several days ago, I e-mailed her some photos and
she said they do match. However, I wanted to be absolutely 100% sure so I sent
her the wood pieces and leather knob for side-by-side comparison in person.
She's going to back to the Toyota dealership that has the wood steering wheel
in stock and on display. Their current price is 39000 yen. At current exchange
rates, that's about $320 in US Dollars. She's already been to the dealer once,
They were very amused that someone from the US would buy parts from so far
away.... (also the fact that Toyota USA doesn't sell it)
I told her to go ahead and buy it, provided the US wood & leather pieces match
the Japanese Camry wood steering wheel. She has my credit card.
According to Japan Post Office website, the insured air mail shipping charge is
roughly USD$31, because the steering wheel's weight.
$320+$31=$351. Not too bad, considering that it's a genuine Toyota accessory
from Japan.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hope to hear good news from her later tonight.

Does that steering wheel have the wood on top and not on the bottom?
I've seen the Japanese wheel for the '07 Camry on a site for $450 and it doesn't have the wood trim on bottom.
Better check.

You're correct. It's only wood on the top portion of the steering wheel. When you face
on-coming traffic, the other drivers can admire your steering wheel just slightly above
the dashboard.
I'm the kind of person who prefer to keep everything stock. Anything added will have to
be from Toyota.(with a Toyota part number.... either from the US or Japan)

Wheel looks much better with wood on top and bottom,IMO.
Seems Lexus and other luxury vehicle companies agree as they have top and bottom wood accents.

well in that case you're severely limiting what you can do with your car in terms of customization, and besides a steering wheel's a steering wheel... i have a wood steering wheel from wooddashexperts in my 03, and it matches the interior perfectly, not to mention the fact that it has woodgrain on the top AND bottom, for about $267... much more worth it IMO than the toyota japan one....

Actually, my friend bought the one from wooddashexperts. I looked at it in his car.
Didn't like it... The wood is perfect, but leather part isn't. That was why I called my
friend in Japan to visit the Toyota dealer in Osaka to see what they got.

Ask your friend in Japan about getting the 07 Camry JDM Side Mirrors (Folding & Turn Signal) I am interested in them, however the price I can get them for is $400 ... a bit steep for mirrors ... maybe she could get them cheaper ... I'd be willing to pay for her efforts as well!!

I have actually asked about it... I was interested in the power-folding function, because
both of my other cars have them from the factory. ..which I modified to fold-in
automatically when the alarm is activated. Well, I didn't actually do that myself... The
folks at Haas Entertainment did that back when I lived in LA... Why did I move to the east
coast anyway.... so many cool things out west...
Anyway, the power folding mechanism was pretty cheap... something like 7500 yen.
(less than $80 USD) But I wasn't sure if it could be easily fitted to the US Camry mirror,
so I didn't proceed.
I never did ask about the signal mirror. It looks fine on my little Mercedes, but don't know
if I like it on my Camry... I'll ask my friend to ask about the price when she call me back
later tonight or tomorrow.

I asked my friend to check it out... She'll let me know when she finds out.
As for my wood steering wheel, she informed me that it is a PERFECT match
with the wood trim and leather from US Camrys. Not surprising... they
got one out of the box. Guess what, the box said "Genuine Toyota.... MADE IN CANADA"
Not surprised indeed... if anyone read my other thread about the Toyota
Camry XLE wood trims that I ordered from Toyota (center console and
4 doors, plus wood gearshif knob), the bags/boxes that the wood trim
parts also said "Made in Canada" (except the Toyota wood gearshift knob
said "Made in Mexico") Guess that's where the Toyota's OEM partner is
located?
Can any Canadian Toyota owners check to see if it's available in Canada but
not the US? I noticed on the Toyota Canada website, there are a bunch
of '07 Camry accessories that are not sold by Toyota USA....
However, my friend did NOT purchase it. She was about to, but the parts
& accy manager at the Osaka Toyota dealer advised my friend to wait until
a couple of weeks. Apparently, Toyota(Japan) is having a sale starting
on 1 August. Accesories will be discounted 12 percent. This will bring the
cost of my wood steering wheel from 39,000 yen down to 34,320!!!!!
(roughly only $280 in US Dollars!)
This means I don't even have to pay shipping.... She's visiting the US
in mid-August, so she can just bring it with her...

I cant wait to see pix .... I'd like to see the Japan wheel vs. the wooddashexperts wheel.
Whats the deal with the mirrors?
