5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey folks, I'm new and have a couple of questions I wasn't able to find the answers to using the search bar. Well, I have noticed that the 02-04 camry headlights have 3 lights in them (hi lo and turn), and the 05-06 have 4 lights. What's the 4th light? I have an 02 LE V6, and I was thinking about getting some projectors, since I think they just look way better. Now, all the aftermarket projectors I have found have the 4 light setup, so my question is: will they work alright with my car? Also, I need to decide between the chrome and black housings. My car is a light blue, so what do you guys think? Also, any pics lof these things would be really appreciated. Thanks.
AS i'm sure that many of the people here in the gen5 family will agree, if you're doing a retrofit, its the way to go, and the acura TSX lights work perfectly. as mike, aka whitechocolate will show when he eventually posts on here. I hope that your not getting the projectors from ebay because they have the problem of being cheaply made. Anyone else wanna follow up?
^I think the turn signal and side markers are two different bulbs on the Gen 5.5.

Always got something else in mind...
i think he's talking about those plug and play projector headlight assemblies... anyway as white chocolate will point out, if you want projectors, the best way to go is a retrofit, you'll have better light output, HID compatability, not to mention genuine philips projectors... don't bother wasting money on those garbage plug and play assemblies, i hear they have less output than the stock halogen reflectors... save up your money and go for a retrofit...

Ok, I tried searching the forums; is there a tutorial on how to do this somehwhere? What parts do I need and how much does it usually cost? I don't really need HID's if I don't have to to have them for the conversion, The stock halogen lights already put out plenty of light. But I have to say I really do like that way that retrofit looks.
Aftermarket projector headlights will actually output less light than stock. So you sacrifice cheap looking aesthetics for functionality. I wouldn't do it. Some people do it and like it but I think they are few in number. Also, some people couldn't even get them to fit correctly. There were some issues with wiring as well. I hate to sound like an ass but you didn't search hard enough.

maybe you can use a high wattage bulb with proper wiring harness...(ie. sepearte wire direct from the battery)
OR
purchase some halogen projectors and retrofit them, which will be slightly less expensive than a HID retro..

Said just about everything that I was going to say.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
