Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
here is the story. i wake up get ready like i do every morning. i get ready to leave the house and i start the car. it seems normal and i look at the headunit to see what song is going to play. well i notice nothing is showing. no "welcome to camry" like it always does, nothing. then sound comes from it and im like shocked. what is going on? and everytime i push a button say FM1/AM, AUX/DISC all my cds start to eject one at a time and then turn off. i turn it back it on and push a preset button and it turns off. this happens for the next 5 tries. so im pissed and annoyed now i have to go to toyota and check it out. as i am leaving and half way there, i decide to push a few more buttons (at this point why not it wont hurt to try) and everything goes back to normal. well if its fixed no point in going to toyota now. so anyways i go about my day everythings fine. I am on my way home and the same thing happens again except this time it happened in the middle of driving. the text shuts off and starts showing random characters. i got a few shots of it on my camera phone and when i get home i run inside grab my camera and got a few shots and a video to show you guys. sound is comming from it but the text is all screwy. the manual doesnt even mention this. so i turn off the car and i turn it back on and the text works again. and says "welcome to camry". wtf? so any idea as to what is going on? well here it is the picture and video. i hope you guys can help me. my car is still brand new, a month old and way less than 5k miles. any advice?

I have the navigation system head unit, which is different from yours, but it's acted flaky 2-3 times during the 9 months I've owned the car. The head unit contains a computer running complex software, and, like any software, has bugs that can cause occasional flakiness. Yours, however, is malfunctioning too frequently, and across reboots (power cycling). So, you likely need a new head unit, which will be a warranty item. Just make sure the dealer didn't scratch the dash or nearby dials/knobs after they do the job - take before/after pictures of your dash, HVAC knobs, etc.
I have had a few glitches with my JBL system on my 07, but nothing that serious. The only problems I have had are that one time the radio acted like it was muted. There is no mute function on this radio. Another time the Bluetooth didn't work. When these strange things happened to me I just pulled over, shut off the engine and restarted the engine. That seemed to take care of the problem. They best advice I can give you would be take it back to the dealer as soon as you can. Tell them what happened and show them the pictures. Most dealers will say "we can't do anything unless we can duplicate the problem". You now have the pictures as proof there is an intermittant problem. They might just order you a new radio and install it. Even if they will not do anything, you will have this problem on record. If you feel you are getting the complete runaround at the dealer, give Toyota corporate a call at 1-800-331-4331 and discuss the problem with them.
thanks guys. i just stopped by toyota earlier. talked to the guys and showed them the pictures. they say its probably a wiring issue or something. so i scheduled a date with them to drop it off for a few hours which is this upcomming thursday. well ill let you guys know how it goes.

How did it go? I'm curious. Wiring problem on a new car?? Weird.. but then again my Camry already changed the transmission.
I have that radio too.. the sound is great but hate the lack of features/settings. The volume for bluetooth is diff then music/radio/etc volume. So when I listen to my music loud and ppl call in, it's small.. ok, fine but when I hange up... BOOM the loud music. So annoying. I want a feature that will slowly increase the volume back to it's original vol.
If it's a shitty dealer they'll put the unit out, make sure everything is plugged in tightly, say it works and give it back to you. If it's a good dealer, they won't even waste time with the wirring and just order a new headunit under warranty... it'll take about a week to get it shipped in and then it's a simple swap. 9 times out of 10 it's a messed up headunit.
Side note... my bluetooth doesn't like working after making consecutive calls... ie hang up on one call and make another 2 seconds later. it says "talking" but no sound comes from it... kinda annoying. and then there's the mp3 disc i made with 200something tracks on it and when random mode goes to the higher ones the radio freezes and i lose all my radio presets. Only happens with that CD so i'm sure there's a cap on the # of tracks listed in the manual somewhere...

The mp3, is it all under 1 tree or in folders? Works fine with mine.
I will try on mine see if it does the same. But so far I had no problem with my MP3.
One time I thought something was wrong because I couldn't swithc to my fav disc... anyway, later discovered that when I lend my sis my car she love the songs so much that she stoll my CD to put it in her car withou realizing it's mp3 and hers just regular music cd player. LOL
The bluetooth is a little low for the other end of the call to hear. Not sure if there is a way to boost it up a little.
i am back and with some good news about today's little adventure to the service department. according to them it was an internal error in the unit and they are going to replace it. maybe it was a bad unit off the production line, who knows. i dropped it off at 1:00 and 50 minutes later, i got a call to pick it up. they ordered me a new unit and are going to swap it out. overall i'm kinda happy about it, being quickly resolved and without any problems or complaints. so all i have to do now is wait for the part to come in and have them swap it out. now i just wait, hoping it doesnt happen again. its really annoying.
to be honest this is the only problem i have with the unit. the bluetooth works great even with making consecutive calls. the mp3s havn't given me any trouble and sometimes they are in multiple folders, but for the most part they are under 1 tree. i havn't heard anyone complain about the quality of the bluetooth call on the other end. i think it sounds the same as if i was just talking on the phone or atleas thats what they tell me.

I'm sure it will be fine ... O/T .... I had an 03 Maxima SE (top of the line ... leather, etc! (No NAV))w/ the 6-Disc In-Dash Bose system. In the winter, the headunit would start cutting out when playing CDs! I had the Bose headunit replaced 17 times!!!! No, I'm not kidding 17 times ... I eventually had the car taken back under NJ Lemon Law, and got a much nicer 2004 Maxima SE fully loaded w/ no additional $$ out of my pocket, so I was needless to say much happier, as I got a newr body style ... but I was put through so much bullshit before I actually gor the new car!
From my understanding .... Pioneer makes the Bose headunits for Nissan / Infiniti! Lets count our luck stars that the camry's headunit is manufactured by Denso / Fujitsu Ten!!!
