She said all of these were brand new Camrys that were sold at their dealership in the last month.(including my own Camry) Sounds like a problem with the supplier that sold the covers to Toyota?

I wonder if they'll let me keep the old cover so I can glue it back-to-back with the new one, just like what you did...
Usually they have to turn the old part into the parts department if it's warranty. They have to hold it for a certain period of time in case Toyota wants it back. Manufacturers do that frequently.

I'm glad that they took care of that for you.

I'd still consider making a stronger one out of MDO board once you get the new one or the same shit that happened to the old one will happen to the new. Or better yet, double up the new one with a layer of MDO.

The pressboard trunk floor is flimsy. Mine had a cracked corner when I took delivery of the car, and was replaced under warranty. It's a $90 part! The replacement promptly broke two weeks later when I put a couple bags of mulch from Home Depot in the trunk. I've since reinforced it with 3/4" aluminum angle-irons bolted to the underside of the pressboard.

The reason the Gen6 has such a flimsy trunk floor compared to the previous generations is that it has a donut spare tire rather than a full-size spare. The full-size tire supports a larger area of the floor (via the entire tire sidewall) than the donut (three 2" pieces of styrofoam pressing against the donut rim). This thing is a joke, and unacceptable in my opinion for an expensive car. My guess is it'll get redesigned in a year or two after Toyota starts noticing how many are getting replaced under warranty.
