salesman says using cruise control during first 1000 miles void my warranty?
I think my salesman is trying to scare me for no reason at all...
He claims that using the cruise control during the first 1000 miles will voide my warranty. I just picked up the car yester day. It has 7 miles on it. I definitely know that I have to take it easy during the initial break-in period, but not using the cruise control? How will Toyota even know that I've used the cruise control? (finger print on the cruise control stalk? )
What do you guys think? I'm taking my new Camry on a road trip next week. It's from NY to FL and back. About 1000 miles each way.

Yep. Sounds like a pile of horseshit. There is no way at all that using cruise control will void the warranty. In fact, this is the first time in my life that I've heard such nonsense.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
Its kinda sad that most salespeople don't know all their stuff... The sounds like total bull and he probably was trying to scare you into additional warranty coverage...
On a different note tho, toyota.ca says that for the first few 100km, you shouldn't drive the car more than 85km/h or roughly 55mph... i don't know why, perhaps if there were faults in the mechanical assembly of the car you wouldn't find out when ur doing more than 85km/h...

Unfortunately, I think my salesman is either very nice or very stupid.(or perhaps has a grudge against the Toyota dealer he's currently working for)
He was the one who told me about this forum.
He also told me to get my Toyota extended warranty from Troy Dietrich from a MA Toyota dealer. (which will save me almost $700!!!!!!!!!!!!)
That's BS coming from that idiot, but maybe what he was trying to say is for the first few thousand miles or so don't use the cruise control. I've heard some mechanic friends of mine plus the guys at work who are into cars say the same thing. Personally I take it easy for the first 3000 miles and then gradually letting go until I get to around 5000....then it's fair game. My father had a 1989 base Toyota Camry (just AC as an option) for 19 years and 250,000 California stop-and-go miles using regular dino oil and I doubt he was as careful as I have been to my car for the first 5000 miles. That car was a champ, but I digress...
The salesman could have told you all of that without resorting to threats about voiding your warranty. What a putz.
Well, the manual did said that during the initial break-in, try not to drive at the same speed (any speed for that matter) for a long period of time. Well, using cruise control would be same speed. With that said, still no where it said in the manual that it would void your warranty if you drive at the same speed for a long time.
