Gen6 Additional Dome Light on models with Factory installed Sunroof/Moonroof

Ok guys, this is my first thread. I’m fairly new to the site. So please excuse me if this topic was already discussed in another thread.

With that said, I’ve noticed that some 07 Camry’s have the Additional Dome light, that is the light piece in between the 2 map lights. My 2007 LE obviously doesn’t have this feature. I’ve noticed the higher models, XLE have this option. As well as any factory model, even an LE that came with an original Sunroof straight from the factory. I was wondering, if I did pry open the map light, is there a bulb already there? Otherwise, if I somehow got my hands on the same piece from an XLE or other cam with that feature, obviously the tilt/up/down wouldn’t do anything since I have no sunroof. But would that piece give me the additional dome light feature? Some wiring would probably be involved, maybe tapping into the original dome light in the center.

Any ideas?

I’ll try to attach the pic, as soon as I post this thread.

Thanks

A little extra light never hurts =). At least for you having the option to leave it off is there.

With models that have the moon roof, they come with the rear reading lamps. If they were to put that light where it is like the models without a moonroof, then teh lights would be too close together. So they had to relocate it to the front.

I doubt there is a bulb there waiting to be used. Maybe its pre-wired for it, but no bulb. Also, since you have no moon-roof, there would be a big gapeing hole there the moon-roof controls are to be. BTW, do you have the main lamp in the center of the cabin?

Gen6 thanks

Avalonman, that actually makes sense (about lights being too close together)... thanks. And Yes, I do have the regular dome light in the center of the cabin.

Check out http://www.camrymanuals.com/ for a proper way to open your light and see what's inside. Goodluck.

Also that's where they hide the mic for Bluetooth that work with cell phone. Maybe U can install one of your own.

If your car have the push start option the dome light will turn itself on when you are at the outside of the door.
