5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I decided i'm getting the B Magic wonderous kit for my Gen 5. The thing is I want to paint my whole car when I put the kit on. My car is silver but I would like to change it to black. Now a friend of a friend of mine with a body shop wants to charge around $1200. At first I was like wtf?! But after looking around online it seems like this actually a good price.
Now my question is, how much have any of you paid to repaint your whole car a diffrent color, and I want a paint job that is going to last years like the factory one. Not a paint job thats going to last 1 year, what do I look for to tell its a quality place?

Seems like a good deal IF you are going with a different color paint job. I was charged 750 bucks for the install and paint to match the super white on my Camry with the Razzi bodykit by a Lexus/Toyota dealer-authorized bodyshop.
Make sure you give them the black color paint code that would normally come off a Gen 5 camry to retain that stock look on paint.

Changing colors for $1,200!?!?
A quality respray of the same color costs ALOT more than that!
That's extremely hard work. There is a TON of prep and vehicle disassembly to do it correctly. Your friend must work at a really crappy bodyshop if they have time to do that to your car for only $1,200.

Buy a black car if you want a black car.
kinda sounds like his buddy works at One Day Body & Paint.
no paint job in the world will match the factory paint.
i would never repaint any car.
if i ever got into an accident i would repaint and resell the car.
You're overestimating the quality of a factory paint job. If I had $5K to drop on a quality paint job, I'd do it. Factory paint these days has such a thin clearcoat. My mom's car is getting repainted this week [hood/roof/trunk] at a higher end shop. They charge upwards of $3K to do a smaller car.

You oughta get the blue ocean effect paint that comes on some BMW's where it looks black but then when the light hits it right, it sparkles blue. It's a double pearl paint and it ain't cheap. That's what I was gonna do with this car and the wondrous kit, which soares is getting from moi! Then decided to save money and work on the next car.
