5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went out and bought some 18" TSW Sakata's & 225/45//28 Toyo Proxes T1R and while my Camry SE looks TIGHT, the ride is not. When I am rollin' at 35mph I get a hum that sounds like the Concord if listing off from a runway.
So my question, Will the sound improve or am I stuck with the noise? If any of you have a similar while tire app, please chime in.
The tread depth on my tires is starting to get low; to the point that I'll be needing to buy new tires before winter comes. I've noticed a gradual, but steady, increase in road noise as the tires have gotten worse. I'm assuming that if road noise increases with tire wear, it can also increase with poor (or different) tires.
Of course, this may not be true at all, but it makes sense to me.
I checked several reviews on the Proxes 4 for road noise and all I see is positives.
I have no idea what it could be. I am getting Ebach Pro's put in next Sat so hopefully it will calm things down...
The road noise could only be from the tires. Wheels don't make noise. Springs will not affect noise either, so don't look for an improvement because of the new springs.
I haven't looked at those particular tires to see what the tread is like but if they are directional make sure that they're facing the correct direction. I see alot of people screw that up.
lowering the car may make it louder simply by being closer to the ground... How much difference may be unnoticable though. It's most likely the tires that are making it noisy... Did you go with a thinner tire then stock?
I recently got the Yokohama YK520, seems to be exclusive to America Tires / Discount Tires (www.tires.com). It was suppose to be the cousin of the Yokohama H4s/V4s. Not too bad. Pretty quiet on roise noise, thought I think the OE Bridgestone that came with the car was quieter when brand new. It (stock OE tires) got unbarebly loud as it wear down.
BTW, I have the Proxis 4's and have no issues with road noise. My wifes 02LE is really loud with Michelins. Would never put them on my car. She really likes them though because they seem to be less prone to picking up nails and such. She went through 5 tires in one year before switching to the Michelins. She's on her second set, and no nails.
