5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Discount Tire sells many brands and offers on their web page a place for customers to comment on the quality or lack of quality of the products they purchased. Seems like I can read 3 wonderful reviews about how quiet and long lasting a particular tire is and then find one which totally contradicts everything previously said, and it seems to apply to everything they sell. The general rule is that the longer a tire lasts the harder the compound and the stiffer the tire has to be in order to achieve longevity. On the other hand there seems to be no particular relationship between tire noise and longevity of tread. Is there actually a tire manufactured today that will live up to its' manufacturer's hype of quiet ride and high mileage?
BTW, some brands mentioned by Discount are:
Michelin Hydroedge
Goodyear Assurance
Michelin Destiny
Pirelli P3000
Continental Conti ProContact

I just got the Michelin Destiny's put on the 05 Camry. The car rides better than new and these are quiet tires that improve everything about the ride and driving experience.
About one month ago (500 miles), I had Discount Tire put on a set of Goodyear Comfort Treads on my 2007 Camry XLE. 250 miles after they were installed I was back because of a vibration between 45 and 75. They found a tire that had a belt separate. They also rebalanced all of them. At 500 miles I was back again for the same problem. This time I upgraded to the Michelin Destiny for $15 a tire.
I should have done that the first time around. They are smooth, quiet, and have great traction. (I live in MN). Discount Tire was awesome.
Considering the fact that the OEM tires were Bridgestones I'm riding on air!
My OEM was Toyo Proxies. It was night and day when I changed to Continental ContiSportContact3. The Toyo not only splipped when you brake, they slip when you start. Good thing 08 Camries come with Michellin nowadays. I read a lot of complaints from Lexus ES350 owners with Toyo OEMs as well.
i had michelins as my stock when i first got the car. terrible in the rain (rains like crazy here in vancouver, canada). they are comfy yes, grip wise, terrible. even from a stoplight when you accelerate slightly they slip.
Just replaced the Firestone Firehawks on my 06 Camry LE today with the Michelin Destinys what a major difference! These tires are very quiet and perform so much better than the Firestones I even got credit for my old tires towards the Michelins which was a plus.
im going to get some new tires really badly in a couple of weeks
thinking about getting them from Discount Tire as well and what I'm thinking about getting are the Yokos YK520
any thoughts? so far a lot of ppl said they are good
i emailed Moky about those tires and this is what he replied:
the yokohamas are good, my brother and i had grip problems with them a few years ago (suv tires). if you are willing to spend around that range per tire, here are my suggestions:
but again it depends too on the sizing and pricing.
in my old car which was performance based and oriented, i used just 15" spoon wheels and yokohama advan neova ad07 tires. these things grip like crazy in the dry hot weather (philippines temperatures of around 35-40 celcius nearly 90% of the time). in the rain and wet roads...now thats an entirely different story.
