2004 Camry Brake Adjusting

NEW can anyone tell me how the auto adjusters work for the rear DRUM brakes on my Camry I know the adjuster is up under the wheel cyl it is not on the bottom like cars I worked on before? To get the drum on I had to turn in the adjusters on the rear Drum Brakes. Now that I did so I cant see a way to adjust them with the tools I have. SO I was wondering if anyone knew if the brakes would adjust with the Hand Break or by backing up and pumping the brakes?
From the looks of the self adjusters it could be either backing up or the emergency brake. So I was hoping that someone could enlighten me.
I am not sure that the older camry's are the same as the newer ones.

You dont say whether you have disc or drum on the back. The disc brake never needs adjustment, tey are totally self adjusting under normal conditions.
except there is a parking brake built inside the rear rotor that has an automatic adjuster inside just for this.
But how they both work on the drum brakes is they adjust themselves everytime you set the brake. No manual adjustment normally required anymore - if you are having brake problems these are the last items id suspect. To keep the mworking properly the self adjuster assembly gets cleaned spotless and relubed with high temp grease at every brake job - then and only then will you adjust it. If you have to adjust your brakes otherwise, something is wrong in there.

Drum brakes: The adjusters work by spinning an adjustment nut/spur on the bottom pivot of the brake shoes. That increases the distance for the bottom of the rear shoes in relation to each other (they move farther apart) and brings the shoes closer to the drum at that point. Self adjustment occurs when backing up, there is a lever that goes against the adjusting nut/spur that prevents it from going backward or loosening. They self adjust marginally and in many cases require manual adjustments. That's why the dealer usually has it included in the 15,000 mile service.

Disk brakes: They don't need to be adjusted.
