Any body know when the speed limiter kicks in on the 2007 Camry V6?

In the recent top 9 fastest 0-60 thread, it said the Camry V6 was governor limited at 145mph.

My Camry SE V6 is revving 2300RPM at 80mph.
The engine reaches peak torque at 4700RPM.
If you do the math, this car without a governor would be doing in the 160mph ballpark when it reaches peak torque in high gear.

I did 208km/h (130MPH) once, but the road had a curve so I had to kill that attempt.

That's past midnight on a non-public highway called the ETR. It's like a runway cuz it's concrete. That's THE proving grounds here in Toronto.

I am pretty sure it is not a double in speed double in rpms relationship, otherwise you would be able to do like 175 based on redline...I guess it would be interesting to know rpms at 90, 100 110 and can extrapolate

FWIW - I've been beyond 145 "indicated" and the engine didn't shut down... On my Sequoia it was limited at 101 and that folks was all she wrote, as soon as the needle hit 101, bang! My Tacoma was like 107 and I never ran out our prior i4 Camrys... But hitting the limiter is like a throttle cable snapped, so I tend to believe the Camrys (at least the SEs) will hit prior claims of 162MPH... This was in earlier writeups (a year ago) so it may have changed? In my experience the car was pushing up to 150 when I chickened out! I read it would do it and by damn it appears it will do it but I had this little thought in my head the tires aren't rated better than 150. That and the fact that seeing 1-5-0 on a speedo on a public road as stupid as it was to do, it made a light go off that it wasn't so smart to do, why push it?

I don't know how they arrived at the value and I know nothing about the writer/magazine, it's on the internet so it must be true?

My MXV4-S8's(93V) are rated to 149 mph.

And according to C&D Road test:

Top speed (governor limited): 145 mph

That's possible, I'm just a layman and certainly no expert.

Power (SAE net): 268 bhp @ 6200 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 248 lb-ft @ 4700 rpm

With a direct extrapolation of 2300RPM at 80MPH, you get 163MPH at Peak Torque (4700RPM), and at Peak Horsepower (6200RPM) you get 215MPH!

I heard somewhere that for liability reasons, Toyota limits the speed to not exceed the speed rating of the stock tires.
On my SE, the factory Toyo tires are rated up to 149MPH.

It's my understanding that the car has a lock-up torque converter.
If the torque converter is locked, the only place that "slippage" could occur is in the transaxle. (if that was happening, that wouldn't be a good thing)

CONSIDERING these things, I wouldn't bet against an UNGOVERNORED 2007 SE V6 being able to reach 160MPH. (Though I don't plan on testing it personally with my car)

Sure these are a factor.
But shouldn't you also consider what speed the engine reaches peak torque?
With Peak Torque not reached until 4700RPM, and the fact that at least the SE is somewhat aerodynamic, I wouldn't bet against the SE V6 being capable of a pretty healthy UNGOVERNORED top speed.

Since it's governed at 145MPH, it's a safe bet to assume it WILL go faster than 145MPH.
