5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
We bought the 07 Camry CE because we knew that we could get keyless from somewhere else pretty cheap. Well, my wife works for the WalMart Home Office and they have access to basically a "sample" store. I found a Bulldog Deluxe 200 Keyless and Remote Start there for $35. Does anyone have any pictures or know anything about hooking up an aftermarket keyless entry and remote start? Thanks for any help at all. Email me at boedy_perrin@yahoo if you need.
Are they supposed to be close to each other as far as wiring etc or something? I think that the keyless entry will be easy to hook up. Just the remote start.....
The keyless entry is pretty much a DIY harry homeowner job (tapping the door lock relays) but the remote start is different because it isn't as simple to ID the right wires to tap and you are messing with more expensive and sensitive systems in the car.
Plus, the difference if you mess it up is manually locking/unlocking your car versus not being able to start it.

Check the "Bulldog web site. Options and quick install kits may be required for the Gen6.
GOOD LUCK!!!!

I found a T-Harness to hook up the remote starter on the website so that should cut out a ton of time. I figured that the keyless entry thing would be pretty simple. I just need to find where everything is and all of that. Then I should be good to go.

I think you will need the 791 transponder bypass module, too. (Valet key) will work here.
You will have to set the ignition switch to RUN before touching the brake pedal. The reverse procidure is auto kill.

Well, I just got back from Best Buy. I had a Viper keyless entry installed ($131 unit + $5 incidentals) installed. Took about 3 hours, and works as expected.
Some points:
1. Doesn't have audible alert, other than horn (which I chose to keep silent)- wanted the beeps (which it doesn't do), not the horn.
2. Choose single pulse setting (to the surprise of Best Buy installer). The first press will unlock the driver door, the second press unlocks the other doors. Seems like I have to wait about one second before pressing the 2nd time. Both of them were surprised because they suggested double pulse which is how they normally do it in Toyotas- that may change after today, as it works the way the Toyota remote works.
3. Trunk pop: He wouldn't do it without the wiring schematics because he didn't want to take any chances (which I can appreciate)... but he said that with only a relay, it should work WITHOUT any additional actuator or solenoid. There is already a "trigger wire" runing to the trunk release (in the trunk), if memory serves, he said the black wire is the trigger wire.
To do it: He said to splice the relay into the trigger wire, then from the relay splice 3 of the 5 wires back into the trigger wire. The 3 wires are the 3 that are NOT the power and ground wires. Supposedly a 30-40 minute job (so, about $40 installation, plus about $10 for the relay). Not gonna have them do it at this time, but Circuit City said they've done it, so I may take a ride there to see if they have experience doing it on the 2007 Camry. I am not gonna be a guinea pig.
I'll let y'all know if they do it and how it works.
I would like to hook up the trunk feature too but really just wanting to focus on the keyless entry and start first. Trunk would be a huge help too though. The keyless entry is supposed to be pretty simple according to wiring diagrams. Splice into unlock, splice into lock, splice into ground, use constant power from the "main control box." Anyone think differently?
Nope, just check voltage to make sure you are getting a constant 12v and that your are running negative to negative or pos to pos to the door trigger.
As far as the trunk is concerned, there is no prewire mechanism in the CE, only a wire to the handle next to the fuel door. When I removed the trunk lid inside cover there was no motor. So I bought a motor for $10. Easy to install and you do need a relay for the trunk. The black wire is the light trigger wire. When you open the trunk that wire gets triggered to turn the light on. You can use it to trigger the alarm if the trunk is opened, but not for solenoid.
