Gen 5 and 5.5 Tail lights

I'm thinking of getting a pair of gen5 or 5.5 tail lights to do a retro.

Does anyone know if the SE (or the sportivo) version has a different tail light compared to the basic models?

it'll be good if someone can post a pic of their tail light..(both gen5/5.5 and SE/normal)

not sure how it works down under, but here in North America, SE tail lights are the same style but are smoked (slightly tinted).

yup SE tail lights on the gen 5.5 are smoked compared to the other models.. wiring im not sure if it is any different. i would imagine it wouldnt be..

I guess they only black out the gen5.5?

I'm not seeing the tint on the 05 SE - is it subtle? Worth switching out?

IF you don't mind me asking...what are you retro'ing? I'm not exactly sure wha tyou mean...are you just trying to swap the lights out from different gens? Are you doing an LED retro? IF so...i think a couple people have alreayd tried and had no luck opening up the assembly. The only thing possible is to use liek a dremel with a cutting disc and just cut open the assembly and do your LED retro there.

Will have to go thru the dremel method i guess..

Yeah, I think it is only the Gen 5.5 SE tail lights that are smoked. In Gen 5, all the tail lights should be the same.
