5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Well, after much debate, I've decided to go with an 18x8 wheel with a +40 offset (TSW vortex - thanks for the previous feedback). I want to put 245/45/18s on them, and with a TRD drop the question is: will I have any clearance problems. Previously others have commented on other threads that it should be fine, but I want to make sure no new info has changed minds before I dive in. The width and the slight increase in diameter still worry me. Thanks again-

I have 19x8.5 Axis Hiros with a 35mm offset with the TRD drop, and I have no rubbing issues. I don't think you need to worry with 18s. I believe the TRD 18" wheels also have a 40 or 45 offset, although they're 7.5 inches wide. I'm sure people with those wheels have lowered their cars and have not encountered any problems.
Post pics of your car when you get your wheels and lowering job done. I love the look of those TSW Vortex wheels and I bet they would look real good on a Camry.

Thanks for the feedback. I kinda thought the 45 series might be a stretch if dropped, but I hate go with the 40 if the speedo is already overestimating the speed. I assume the consensus is that a drop with that width (245) would probably be safer with a 40 series.

I'm rolling with a 45 profile and a TRD drop works just fine.

I always thought you were rolling on 40's since your tires don't look to thick on your 18's, but then again the spokes on your rims extend all the way out to the edge of the wheel so they look bigger then they really are.

I get stopped all the time and people are shocked to see a 45 profile.

How wide are your rims? 225 are too thin to my liking... but I guess I may need to for 45 profile hopefully I'll see you in two weeks... i'll have my ride dropped by then
Between you and me, I'm not sure who is worse on keep changing wheels?
I am on my 3rd set and currently looking for the 4th set for those GS430. I'm gonna go with 225-45-18 so I can drop it.
