Gen6 Oil change GEN6 V6

does anyone use a filter wrench to remove the filter housing?

I went to 2 parts stores and they didn't have one small enough to fit,

I asked the dealer (parts) and they told me to use channel locks, bad idea,

I also tried a strap wrench, not enough room, so I ended up wackin' it on the two tabs

until it broke loose....but that method sucked...anybody have the Toyota tool they talk

about on the filter instructions? or know where I could get an aftermarket one?

The official wrench is sold on line and I think I've seen it on Amazon. It is a 64 mm filter wrench. If you google, look for toyota filter wrench. There are 3 sizes in a kit that one manufacturer retails and you can buy just the one tht you need. Also, NAPA sells a 65 mm wrench that works just fine for less money, but it does a little slop because it is 1 mm larger.

If I am not mistaken, the Gen 6 V6 Camry uses the 2GR-FE engine - same as Gen 6 Avalon. A type B cap works. This is also known as a 65mm/67mm 14 flute wrench.

The following may help.
