Gen6 '07 XLE Owners - Plasmacluster

Have you ever seen the words "Ion Clean" in your A/C display? The service manual says it should be there if the Plasmacluster is working.

I haven't seen it and I've never heard any static type noise from my negative ion generator thru the drivers side A/C vent in 16 months.

Just looking for some feedback before a trip to my dealer.

Never heard of or seen that. Is it something that should always be there or is there a procedure to get the status/message?

According to the service manual it should be on the display to show it is working.

I performed the indicator check as described on AC-39 and the "ION CLEAN" icon lights up.

A plasmacluster fault does not set a DTC.

The Suspected areas if the Plasmacluster indicator does not come on (Plasmacluster does not operate) are the Blower Motor Circuit, the Plasmacluster Circuit or the A/C amplifier.

AC-109 describes the Plasmacluster Circuit troubleshooting starting with the A/C amplifier. I may check those voltages next week. After that it will go to the dealer to remove all the dash pieces to get to the ion generator harness and ion generator. If all voltages are ok, then the Ion generator has to be replaced.

Maybe it was never programmed in the vehicles???????????

Canada thats why I bought the XLE

Weird, its nice to know if its working, thats why I bought the XLE in Canada, the other Camry models didnt' have. I do occassionaly smell a tinny/electrical type of odour, not like the usual smelly sock you get with the regular air-cons. And, never did hear that buzzing sound the manual says. It would be nice to know if its working somehow...

Check my display today. No "ion Clean" indicator. Also just turned on the key and AC, no engine running and listened at the drivers vent, other than blower running and air comming out I didn't hear any sounds as decribed in theowner manual.

njerald: keep us informed as to what you find out. This sounds like it could be happening on a lot of XLE's
