USA Oil change confusions

I am doing an oil change in a few days for a friend in their 05 4 cylinder 2.4liter camry and im getting weird search results. Ive seen everything from you must use full synthetic 5w30 to it doesnt matter. Ive also seen a post on changeing the filter and it shows this huge contraption with a filter cartridge and all these steps you gotta take and buy a hose to drive it etc. My question is does this 2.4 engine have aREGULAR filter and is everything pretty much the same as always or does it have a filter cartridge instead of a whole filter that you replace. Also, how many quarts of oil does this take so i know how much to actually buy without wasteing money? All help appreciated thanks.

The hose & adapter inserted thru the base of the filter housing is used on 6 cyl Camry's and Avalon's equipped with the 2GR-FE engine.

I can't speak for the '05 Camry 4 cyl, but I'd bet a buck you use a cap wrench from the bottom to get it off.

Others may confirm this.

takes 4 quarts....
uses a standard, twist on type filter....make sure u get an oem toyota filter for the car...
it doesnt matter what type of oil you use...standard 5w30 is what is reccomended......i go for 5w30 synthetic myslf cause it makes my engine run smoother and will help make her last for years to come

The filter is just regular oil filter, oil filter is located front of the car (passenger side) to the left of the oil pan. I would use a quality synthetic oil with genuine Toyota oil filter. Syn oil helps with the fuel efficiency of the camry.

Torque for the drain plug: 18 ft lb

Capacity:
Drain and refill w/ Oil filter change 3.8 liters (4.0 US qts, 3.3 lmp. qts)
Drain and refill w/o Oil filter change 3.6 liters (3.8 US qts, 3.2 lmp. qts)
