First off, i'm an idiot. i already know that. i should have asked before hand...So please be nice and help a fellow owner out!
- The dealer badge that came on my car was coming loose so i decided to take it off cause it was ugly anyways
- the two sided tape was still on the trunk after it was removed.
- i used a sponge and some rubbing alcohol to get the double sided tape off, and now it left a mark on the trunk!!!! the paint there is lighter than the rest (i have magnetic grey). i think some of the paint or clear coat must have come off with it!!!
im new and have no idea what to do... What can i do???
Calm down......
How long have you got the car? How long has it been sitting in the sun and through winter in Canada. My point is your car paint could be a little dirty and the area inside the dealer badge has not been expose to sun, dirt, etc. Give it a good cleaner wax in the trunk area.
Post some pictures for us to see also.

It's possible that the light areas simply still have some residue from the double-sided tape. If the discolored area has a rough, sticky feel to it, then that's probably the case. Worst-case scenario: Just ask the dealer for another of their stylish advertising stickers and slap it on to cover up any damaged paint!

Because it was a dealer emblem, and not a Toyota factory emblem, I wonder if he could complain to the dealer that the emblem itself damaged the paint? The dealer would then have to fix the paint at no cost to the owner. I've always felt that the dealer had no right to add their own emblems to a car, since it end up being my property and it did not come from the factory that way.

go to canadian tire and buy:
Mother's
California Gold
Scratch/swirl remover (small red bottle)
Rub the area by hand with a 100% cotton cloth in a straight back and forth movement, really rub it in, put some sweat and elbow grease into it as this shit is not very abrasive.
wipe off with a clean 100% cotton cloth. tada, discoloration and marks gone, no risk to your paint, trust me. i use this shit like i drink coffee, well not that much, but i use it, and it works miracles.
thanks for the tips guys, but im pretty sure i rubbed too hard. and the stickiness from the double sided tape got removed with a layer of the clear coat.
the light area isnt in the shape of the dealer badge or the double sided tape, its in the shape of my scrubbing
I think it's worth taking to the dealer to show them and ask what kind of horseshit adhesive they used to put on their free advertisment that you didn't approve to be put on you car in the first place. Also in the future (hind sight is 20/20) try using an adhesive remover like Goo Gone or something to remove leftover residue instead of rubbing alcohol.
I hate it how some dealers put their shit badges on the cars. Nobody wants to falunt their ugly badges.
Like I kept on seeing these high-end Cadillacs (i.e. STS, Escalade) in downtown. Many still had this ugly "Addison" badge which was larger than the nameplate itself. Stupid owners.
Luckily that dealer died cuz a condo company built their land to build a residence.

When I bought mine I told the salesman that if they even think about putting thier f-ing sticker on my car, they better be prepared to pony up 150 per month for me to advertise their dealership, long story short my car came out without any extra stickers.
thx for the replies, and yes the dealership is gay for putting it there in the first place..
i tried the scratch remover, but that only got rid of some of the light area, there was still an outline of the light area after applications..
toyota collision centre fixed up the mark for free. just did a little wax and polish. you can faintly still see a rectangle to where the double sided tape was.. but you have to look extremely carefully
will the mark reappear after a while as the wax/polish fades away or is that gone for life?
