5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I am close to buying a new camry. I can back out if need be but I do like the car and I love the power from the V6. I have alway heard great things about Toyota's in the past.
When I drove it yesterday i was unaware of the problems with the "flare" from the transmissions. From what i can tell is that Toyota is replacing the transmissions under a service bulletin.
Where can i quickly get a copy of one before Monday AM that is not a pain to get. Like can one of you email me one?
Is there a point in time that Toyota changed the transmission? Seems that the later one's have been ok under the warranty replacement. What would be the date of manufacture be that I should buy after?
Has anyone bought one lately? Does it work ok? What was your build date?
I hope someone can help. Thanks for all the other posts I've read that got me paranoid....haha Darn internet.
Although some transmissions fail mechanically, most are just fine and those that had problems generally are fixed by reprogramming the transmission computer. The primary problem has been the firmwere, not the mechanics. Mine was fixed by a correction of the firmware set. The last TSB was issued at the end of May, so any v6 built during June or later should be just fine. Worry about getting a good deal, not the transmission.

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
Do a search; there's a lot of information on this topic. I can't speak from personal experience b/c I have an I4. But I don't think they're actually replacing the transmissions, they're just updating the firmware.
Also, this isn't an issue on every transmission. It's a very small and outspoken minority. If you drove the car and didn't notice anything, you should be fine.
one should consider peak oil when purchasing a gas burning appliance that might last 20 years (like most of the gen 2 camrys)the us doe states that non opec world oil production will most likely decline after 2008(wiki).if gas is $5/gal in 3 years will you wish you waited for a 10th gen corolla with the 2.0 multitronic (157 hp and 30+ mpg)?for a preview of the 10th gen corolla go to toyota.com.aus
