I agree, but I think you guys are missing my point. A lot of people are trying to comapre the Chinese makers to other car companies that were able to come in and make a huge splash. I'm just saying that in the 80s and early 90s there really was no real consumer accessible internet to do extensive research on. With the modern internet, car buyers are able to go out and research car saftey, watch crash test videos and be able to compare prices, so there is no real reason to buy a chinese car.

This concern over reliability is a genuine concern and it derives out of articles like this:

Buick ties with Lexus for the top spot and beat out Toyota which placed 6th overall. I still love my Toyota, but the quality score for domestic brands has been steadily rising in the past 3 years while imports are losing ground.
