5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
From an inside source, Toyota Is holding off on redesigning any new vehicles in order to straighten out "Quality Issues" that they have been having in the last few new design launches. Again, this is not official, but from an inside source.

I believe that Toyota quality might be lower than what it used to be. However, it's still generations ahead of companies like GM. Also Toyota isn't plagued with all the tech-problems gaving the Germans (especially BMW).

as long as they make a new corolla soon cause the girlfriends in need of a new car and i'm not fond of the current model's styling, camry's too big for her and the yaris just doesn't work for me.
If they don't clean up, China will soon follow with a simpler, more affordable car, which they might do anyway.
China will indeed do as you say. However, I will not be caught dead ever buying or leasing a Chinese car. I know how many of their other products "hold up". I don't intend on trusting my life to that kind of quality. Go ahead, call me unfair. I'm sure there are others who agree with my view.
And besides, for any China brand to become established, it will need 10-15 years before it's even considered by the low-end and some mid-range buyers. Hyundai has just recently emerged as a mid-range player in North America after going through that process.

I think this is an example of why Toyota is a good company. Instead of just selling the cars and hopping nobody will notice a minor issue or two, they refuse to put out anything short of an excelent product.
Then the Chinese companies come out and say that they are commited to safetfy and that their cars meet all laws mandated in the countries they are sold.
Combine this and all the bad press from the poision food, faulty tires and what not, it comes down to the world not taking China seriously.

You have many valid points and I agree with most. In the end, it usually comes down to economics - what can a person afford. That's how the Korean mfgs. got their foot in the door. Built cheap crap that was more affordable and in time, ended up producing cars that have a higher or as high of a satisfaction rating as most Japanese mfgs.
China would be forced to eventually come up to the same std. In the beginning, they could get away with the "cheap crap" approach as the price of cars has gotten ridiculous.

True, I agree with you. Many people even say thats how Toyota got started, copying other cars. The thing is that in modern society we have come to expect more. When Toyota and Hyundai were first coming to market, not many people were concerned about crash testing, reliability and what not. But in today's market, with tools like the internet, there isn't any reason to buy Chinese death traps. I would much rather buy a used Camry then any current Chinese car. If China keeps flooding the market with the cheap rip offs, no one will take them seriously.

WTF??? There is about a 15 year split between Toy coming to N/A and Hyundai. Toyota starting coming to the states as a player in the 70's and the Hyundai didn't show up until the mid 80's. There was an exponential jump in regulations and safety features during that period.

i believe this is an excellent idea....it shows that toyota is still a company with its customers and their satisfaction in the quality of their toyotas at heart....since i work in a dealership, i always hear people bragging about "toyota quality" and it sparks something true.....this shows that toyota still has the same mindset they had when they first started, and thet theyre willing to take time to fix the problems plauging their cars in order to produce the best possible product
