Gen6 Flare On...

Here's a heart breaker...I have a 3+ week old SE V6 Camry with 1100+ miles and today I experienced my first 3-4 gear flare. It’s a 07/07 build so it is well past the May 17th, 2007 TC007-07 TSB that addresses shift flare concerns in the ’07 V6.

I must say that I’m really disappointed that after 18 months since the “2007” Camry’s release Toyota still has not been able to resolve this issue.

Not yet...today was the first day it occured. I want to see if this is going to be a regular issue and whether or not I can recreate it if need be.

3-4 flare is fine. My car does it sometimes. I don't want the dealer to disect my car just for changing my tranny.

It won't fit like from the factory anyway.

Get a small digital camera tht will do movies of several seconds and have it running, looking at the tachometer. If it will record sound, have the radio off so it will record the engine noise. Get a few good flares on 'film' and take them in to the dealer. They are supposed to replicate the problem and it just never works out that way, so the movies help explain what is happening. Sorry to hear a new one is still doing this.

I somwhat but not tatally surprised that this is still happening, I really thought that the flare issue had been addressed at the factory, especially on a model built a month ago. Mine has flared once on me and never returned, knock on wood. I think mine kept hearing about the flare and did it just to be part of the group.

EuroPlate - I am sorry to hear that your newly built Camry is experiencing the shift flare. I had my tranny replaced on April 24th due to a 1000 RPM shift flare that was very consistent and easy to reproduce. We have about 2200 miles on the new tranny and we just experienced our 1st shift flare on Sunday! I was so bummed! I guess our next step is TSB TC007-07...but after your post, it doesn't appear it is going to help at all. I was looking to trade this car in for a 4 Runner or something but I will be taking a big lose (I don't feel right selling it to a private party). I never thought I would be in this situation after buying a brand new Toyota.

Do NOT get TC007-07 done--you'll be sorry! I now have the flare on EVERY gear change all day long...not good!

On the brighter side, this qualifies you for a brand new out of the box transmission, and a free loan car for a few days. Read the fine print. If the flash doesn't fix the problem, then the next step is a new tranny.

It seems like it would make it easier to get the transmission replaced. I know it would with me.

I recommend living with the 3-4 flare. It's less hassle.

I always say that every time the dealer takes apart something, it never gets put back to factory specs. So the less they touch, the better.

I would LOVE a new transmission, if it would for sure fix the problem...but I do not think it will from what I've read here and other places....very frustrating.
