5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i'm loving my 4 banger a lot recently since I get to drive it less especially with my coilovers, taking corners as fast as bimmers and them looking at me like wtf is an uncomparable feeling
I share your sentiment exactly. I constantly get the "Are you insane for cornering that fast in that" from people with what they think are better cars.
To answer the turbo question, yes you can and if you have the means please do. Having a turbo i4 Camry is not as much about performance as it is about the uniqueness of the car. My plan is to turbo mine as well (as soon as I get some money and find the proper people to be able to do some custom work), I know that the V6 already makes over 200hp and all that but it is heavier and in my mind owning a boosted 4 cylinder is a lot more fun than a plain V6.
As someone said earlier, I don't think the answer to a question about a turbo 4 should be answered with "go buy a v6".

I4: Want more hp
V6: Buy a V6
I4T: Turbo FTW
Moky and Lammydi: Who needs hp when you just park your car and look pretty! We have a winner!!!
WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!
and like you said, why go fast? all people will see is a blur. go slow so people can eyeball and ogle our beautiful rides

I'm on your side. I like my I4 now, the slow the better..
Despite my being a stuffy, forty-something that drives a TCH, I'm going vote with the adventurous crowd here, and ask the "go buy a V-6" guys to give it a rest.
Although this dead horse has been beaten into dry bonemeal dust (note my date of join...), I'll add two bits anyway. What the V-6 guys overlook is that this is not a question about practicality in transport. If you're looking for nothing more than practical, fast transport, then yeah, the V-6 makes sense. But if you want to get your hands dirty, take a chance, and perhaps come up with something that's uniquely yours, then by all means, tear into it, and I wish you the best of luck.
Be prepared to spend a lot of cash, time, and get frustrated. Get good parts, and realize that there may be a failure or two (perhaps expensive failures) along the road to final success. And be sure that you have an alternate way to get to work during the critical phases of the project.
Hey, why not grow a huge set of big brass ones and turbo a Hybrid Camry!!!
