custom turbo

Just wondering if its worth it to get a custom turbo job done on the camry i4 07?

Right now it is at 158 hp, a way to boost it to maybe 220 hp ? Is that realistic?

Anyone know of a place in toronto or new york to get it done?

39% power increase? How long do you think the engine will last with this? What, are you totally nuts? Trade it in and get a stock V6 and quit screwing with this stuff. No custom work needed.

I agree... with the cost of a custom setup, might as well upgrade to a v6 and get more HP with better gas mileage

Its definately not impossible, I took my Mazda Protege from 140hp to 240whp with a GT25R Turbo 13 psi a FMIC and some other goodies, but after all that you will have as much HP as the V6 and a lot more time, money, and effort. But it definately can be done!

Because my camry 2007 LE is worth only 20k-21k as a trade-in and the XLE V6 or SE V6 is 35K in canada. So 15k to upgrade to a V6. Maybe I can upgrade the existing car for 4k-5k.

yeah he is totally nuts, you are too do some reason lol
that's not too much of an increase in either case we're talking 7-8psi with a good turbo
custom job in a shop will run you a lot of $
If you really want to do it do some research I suggest scionlife forum forced induction forums for the scion tC's as they're running the I4 from our older models, you won't get crap about turbos here,
I'm still looking into mine but short on cash atm looknikg for shops to do a cheaper job o nthe piping but if you're up for it then I want to see it hehe
if you get all your parts and dont go for too much performance than you need you can probably fit in 2-3 grand if they're brand new and with proper tuning at a shop and piping done by someone else
always see if you can save somewhere jst dont cut corners on tuning if you dont know what you're doing so you don't blow something

good luck

pretty sure you could hook up emanage but we're looking at $500 for that alone but if that works then you're pretty much set from waht i've heard, so far I've only been looking into the hardware part of it mostly not a nice ticket for $430 recently so that set me back a little haha might have to wait until next spring to start the season with this finishing up some small stuff now, don't have much $ left especially with starting college in a couple weeks

Your engine will last just fine if you do the job properly (ie. forged internals, no cheaping out on parts, etc).

its not hard to do at all, just pricey ... send a PM to Toysrme on these forums and ask for specifics - he knows his way around an engine quite well

i'd say if you had $6k to spend, then go for it ...

Trade in your I4 for a used V6. It couldn't be a 6 grand spread, you'd have more power, a 6 speed, a smoother riding car because of the weight, and no concerns the turbo is going to fail at a bad time with limited access to parts. Smells like another good example of having more money than good sense.

The guy didn't fucking ask if you guys think he should get a turbo or trade his car in. He asked if it's realistic to put a turbo on the 4cyl. Yes, 220 horse is realistic, if youre willing to put the money and effort into it.

I'm tired of everytime someone asks about performance mods all you assholes say "trade up to a v6, that's way smarter than a custom turbo." Well sometimes its not about being economical, it's about being unique and having a car with some work you can brag about. Not about driving the same car as everyone else.

Maybe I'll start a thread titled "Should I get a turbo on my I4, or trade up to a v6" So you guys can get your feelings out there and stop harrassing people that want to put some work into their car.
