5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I must say I am extremely happy with this purchase. Keeps my garage full of toyota's. I bought it for wholesale since we knew the owner of the dealership, which was 24,005 and total out the door was 27,435 and some change. I did put 6k down. Car is silver and it is very smooth on the freeway and just like our Supra, at 85 it at a little over 2200 RPM's in sixth. I was looking just for an 07 but found the 08 on the dealers second lot in the back corner. Looking forward to modding this one to hopefully try to keep up with the Supra. But very happy on the purchase.

can you please keep us updated on the transmission flare issues???
Yea sure thing, but what is going on with the flare issues? Just picked this thing up last night. Let me know
Basically, the transmission slips. Happens more often when cold and usually on the 3-4 shift. Search on "flare" or "transmission" and you'll find lots of threads. I've had a new tranny and a software update and still no luck. I gave up... the wife now drives the Camry and I got something else. Eight trips to the dealer was 7 too many, IMHO.

Thanks for the info Mark. Sounds like you had a nightmare of a time dealing with your problems. We bought it for my wife to drive. I don't trust her with the Supra. I will keep my out on the slipping problem, sounds like a major hassle that you went thru and if I have to go thru it, I will most likely trade it in or take it back as a possible lemon. Good luck and hopefully I won't run into that problem.

Yes. But the wife doesn't care that it's not right and the way the problems were cleverly documented by the dealer I'd have to take it back two more times to get my three documented unsuccessful repair attempts. As long as this car runs, I will not step foot in a Toyota dealer. Plus, I bought it used and it's got the 100k warranty anyways. Toyota will eventually get the tranny right so maybe in a few years I'll get it fixed for good. I still like the car... it's just not for me as a daily driver.
the guy has only had his car a day or so, stop telling him it has problems!!!!! Let him enjoy it and be worry free. If a problem arises i'm sure he'll get it fixed!

No worries guys, it only has about 27 miles on her now. I am sure it will be modded a little bit so if it gives loose it may be my fault. Here are some pics of our Supra. It at SP Engineering so I will take pictures of them together when I get it back.

Who is telling him his car has problems???????
reyrey is probably curious to know if the '08s have any tranny issues. The thread initator asked a question and I answered it. Where did ANYONE say his car has problems?
Thanks guys, I didn't take it as he was telling my car was having problems I think he was just letting me know about this problem since I had no idea about it. Anyways still happy with the car, haven't got on it yet and I am very happy with the gas milage since the supra can empty it tank of 112 on 2-4 hwy pulls.
